Went with a group of folks for a birthday trip. We managed to hit that last cold week in the area before it gets warm, so nights were a little cold. Everyone managed to stay pretty warm and had a great time.
Finished the rest of Passage 1 after doing the small section to the border a few weeks ago. First day had some nice cloud cover and a breeze for the climb. Camped near Bathtub Spring. Second day got pretty warm - there was decent water by Mud Spring as well. FS fire truck was doing something at the end of the passage but not sure what. Lots of BP .
Beautiful as ever, but felt much more overgrown and bushwhacky - time taken to complete definitely reflects that. We got out right as the sun was setting, so everyone had already left the waterfall area for the day.
Quick section due to increasing temps and needing to go to plan c this weekend. Definitely will return to Oracle - market had some fancy treats and nice lunch before heading back up to Phx.
We are headed out to do Passage 1 in a couple weeks so thought we’d make it a little shorter by going to the border and back from Montezuma Pass on the way to the Chiricahuas. Lots of border activity in the area but otherwise uneventful. Saw a few thru hikers starting the full trail - very breezy and cool so hopefully it lasts until we get back.
I’ve tried randomly on and off for this permit if I was going to be in the area, and lo and behold, we won. Definitely lots to explore beyond the wave.
