This was plan C since construction closed Blue Lake trailhead this summer and fires closed part of Black Canyon of the Gunnison. We were able to loop around to Island Lake this trip so got to see a new lake at least.

There was still a ton of snow at the pass so we were planning to do an out and back from Paradise side to the lakes but ranger said someone got swept away at the crossing within the last few days. So we settled on out and back just in Paradise Valley and will return at a later date.

We didn’t quite go to the summit because we were watching a fire that seemed to be spreading SE of us and didn’t want to get caught in anything. I looked it up later and they were able to contain it pretty quickly so we must’ve just been there at the exact right time.
