I had the morning open again so why not hike the Supes? I decided to look at access to the canyon behind Geronimo Head. I didn't feel like driving down to Canyon Lake so I went in from First Water TH. I started at 5:30 again and things were good. When I started down Second Water toward Boulder Canyon I saw something of to the left. It was a fox. I stopped and he stopped. As I reached for my camera (hoping he wouldn't run off) he came closer. I starting thinking about rabies and why he/she was getting so close? I kept my pack between us and snapped away. The fox wasn't aggressive just very playful. It probably would have come right up to me but I stomped by foot to keep it a few feet back. When it started to follow me I turned and stomped again until it lost interest. A beautiful animal but way to friendly and playful. After my strange fox encounter it was hiking as usual. The heat wasn't bad but the humidity had me sweating buckets. I returned to the TH just after 10p and a sheriff was there? We talked briefly and he asked me which vehicle was mine then drove off. I'm not sure who he was looking for but that was new. Just another day in the Supes.
