| no partners | | Had to stretch my legs a bit today so I decided to hike once again up to Garden Valley. From the First Water TH I hiked down to the old covered corral down by the creek. Everything is so green from the rains of a week ago and the creek is flowing nicely. I crossed the creek stepping on stones to keep my feet dry, then up the bank on the opposite side and onto the trail.
I casually followed the trail up to the Garden without meeting another person, stopping occasionally to take scenery shots along the creek. Once up in the Garden, I explored the ridges below the arch where the sights of the valley on either side of me are really great. I like the views looking downstream past Hackberry Spring and the view of Little Four Peaks.
Garden Valley has a few wet spots yet but the Cholla are growing and shedding those nasty extensions that are full of needles I hiked around the perimeter of the Garden while trying to avoid the Cholla, but they still manage to get stuck in the shoes and on my pants.
It's another nice day so there's several people out on the trails, some going down Second Water, some going down Black Mesa and others making the Hackberry Spring loop. I continued my Clockwise loop heading down towards the tributary and occasionally hear the sounds of running water alongside the trail.
The old Barkley Ranch site is very green and there's a steady flow of water in the creek so it still looks like it may be a pretty decent spring flower season. Then it's on up the trail to the TH and a full parking lot.
Another great day in the Superstitions. |
