Day 7: Spent a little time in the Morning with my new Friend from Florida who is working on his Thesis for his PH.D in Entomology. He only caught one Beetle overnight for his Friend because apparently for the 2nd Year in a row, the Resident Skunk found 8 of the 9 Traps and tore them apart getting the Raw Hamburger out of them... It's a little funny, I thought I would only be looking up into the Tops of Trees to see Birds, but now, I was doing it to see the Chiricahua Pine White Butterflies as well... Dale caught several Females, which was his Goal, and he was extremely happy...He caught a few Males as well, enticing them out of the Tops of the Trees with Female "Decoys"...For some reason, even without the Decoys, they were really liking his White SUV Rental as well... It was pretty cool meeting Dale and I learned a lot from him...He had quite the "Field" Set Up going on and I even got to meet his Pet Spider...Now I know I will never Cowboy Camp in Florida... We said our Goodbyes and I started heading down the Hill.
My Goal was to spend the Night at Roper Lake and then head to the Sierra Ancha to meet up with some Photography Friends on Friday. I'm sure my Friends also appreciated that I took advantage of a Hot Shower at Roper while I was there...
Along the Way down, I stopped and Hiked up Wet Canyon to see how the Colors were. There were some Leaves on the Ground, but generally the area was still very Green. After I got done there, I did a quick stop at Noon Creek to Photograph a couple of showy Trees and then it was down to the Lake. Walked about halfway around to the Island and enjoyed a Sunset before turning in...My Dinner Bell must not have been loud enough on this Night, as there wasn't a single Raccoon to be heard or found this time, even though I was in my usual Spot...
Day 8: Woke up at Sunrise, took a Shower and packed up...I met up with Chad on his Lunch Break and we caught up on all the News before I hit the Road...
Just a Great Trip into the Pinalenos...What can I say? Doesn't matter what Time of Year it is, this Area never disappoints...I was long overdue to get out and away and this was Perfect, as always... |
