Wanted to get out there to keep the legs hiking as we are supposed to do a big hike, at least for me, this coming weekend. I've been having a little more than normal trouble with the lung power on the uphills  and though there isn't much elevation on this hike; it's better than none.

It was brisk this morning (10:15am) so I'm glad I wore my long sleeve shirt. As I went up the hill clockwise; I remembered the old days when there was at least one, maybe two less SBacks as now it seems so much easier. There was one other person on the trail up to and going down the hill on the northside until I let another couple pass by me with the woman talking rather loudly.

Today I was testing 3 things: my new camera in different modes both for pictures and movies and my refurbished Oregon 450 (after a re-boot) vs HAZtraks. I am in a discussion with one of the technicians at Garmin. I doubt he can help but I'm one of those folks that needs to at least try to resolve an issue. The last couple times the 450 was WAY off on mileage; thus the re-boot. So when HAZtraks said each mile, I would pull out the 450 and verify with a photo and as usual, by the end of the hike it was off by 1/4 mile :x (it gets off by 1/2 with more mileage) and the minutes stopped was more than HAZtraks as well. AND as usual, when I uploaded the route to Mapsource and HAZ, the numbers pretty much aligned with HAZtraks.

But what good is this 450 if it can't be accurate in the field? If I just want a tracking device, I can get that almost anywhere. I know, I know, but Angela you're not good at following a route yet, and this is true but I can tell you that if I didn't have the GPS at Apache Creek hike, I could have been in trouble. That's really when mileage matters.

As to the Panasonic ZS40 camera, it took much better pictures than the virgin voyage so I think I might have had a setting off. I am still having trouble with the editing though. I did see the time was not right so I fixed that last nite. I took photos in P and AE (auto) mode and for the most part, the AE got the crisper photo. I took movies in P and AE mode and there doesn't appear to be but minimal difference. I found before that AE mode would constantly be adjusting the light but that didn't seem to be the case this time. The camera has a better stabilizer and that was evident upon upload.

Now back to the hike. It was a lovely day really, just me and the trail except for one other biker and one other hiker coming toward me. The trail is in good shape but did have some puddles left over from the rain. I did notice a couple down saguaros too. There were also a couple more benches that were new to me. The desert flora seems quite happy and unusually nice for this time of year. This is always a great hike :) .

I did narration when I changed modes. The camera does let you take a picture while in movie mode but the quality was not really good; altho I was moving so I'll try and take a photo when taking a stationary video. http://youtu.be/9Th1WFMunuQ. In reviewing the video on youtube I did notice it would jerk from time to time so not sure if that is me or the edit process. The clouds didn't look quite right either. I am using the new Premiere Elements 13 so there will be a learning curve :-k from the 10.

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled.
