We also decided to chance it and not get an early start so about 8am headed out from Locket Meadow and Inner Basin Trail. The aspens in the lower portion were spectacular as always making our way up to Waterline and Inner Basin. Made pretty good time getting up to Doyle Saddle and about 1 mile past the saddle we ran into toddak coming down from the peak with his son. Nice to finally meet him and we talked for a few minutes about HAZ and lamented our lack of an early start as he had done. Pushing on we reached the saddle on the ridgeline with some rumbles starting. Not wasting any time we headed up the ridgeline towards Humphrey's and we made it about 1/2 mile from the summit before turning back. Close lightning, 1/4 inch size hail and a bit chilly on the ridgeline but we decided the better decision was to head down...no point in staying on the ridgeline any longer than necessary. It continued to rain on and off down the trail but nothing compared to the ridgeline. Made it back to the vehicle with everyone safe and enjoyed a beverage! |
