Took a day hike down and back to the cliff dwellings in Rogers Canyon from Rogers Trough TH the day before leaving from the same TH for a backpacking trek into Reavis Ranch. Had some delay at the beginning of the hike trying to figure out what to do about a backpacker who came up the trail just as we drove in. He had cut short a planned two week backpack using Reavis Ranch as a base camp. His reasons: no apples at Reavis, his rifle broke, food not adequate without apples. His ride back to civilization wasn't due for a week and he didn't have a cell phone. He asked us for a ride down to Queen Valley Rd - that's like a 2 hour drive round trip on an unpleasant road! Kelly solved the problem by texting his ride (his father) to come get him - did not expect cell phone coverage there. She left him her phone so he could straighten out the logistics with his father and told him to leave it behind a tree trunk when he was done.

So finally off we went. It was a first time to this destination for all of us. There was some water in the creek near the TH but lower in the canyon it was dry. Some very picturesque rock formations on the canyon walls along the way. The ruins were worth the trek and still in good shape despite the wear and tear of frequent visitors and people who insist on leaving their names and dates carved/scratched in the ruin walls and timbers. Got back to the TH and we were happy to find our stranded backpacker was gone and he had left Kelly's phone in the designated spot. We set up camp not far from the TH and hit the sack early to be refreshed for the backpack into Reavis Ranch the next day.
