Went for a hike on the Tom's Thumb trail up to its intersection with the East End Trail. Found a friend waiting for me in a bush by the side of the trail near the trailhead building on my way back to the car. Didn't see him at first but heard a barely audible very brief buzzing sound as I passed within a foot of the bush. Turned around to locate the source of the sound and found a Western Diamondback staring at me from his hiding place within 6 inches of the trail edge. After attracting a few other passing hikers he slithered across the trail and went on his way in no particular hurry.
