Horton creek is flowing all the way to it's merger with Tonto. The usually dry falls just up from the campground are flowing nicely and is very loud.
Horton creek now has special fishing regulations in place. There were two of these signs I saw and likely more at the Highline trail junction, although I did not go that far. This is not a problem for me since I always use these techniques when fishing Horton anyway, except for the barbless hooks. Although, traditional flies can be modified on the spot to comply.
This is likely a result of the constant barrage this area takes every year from folks that do not understand the delicate fishery that Horton creek is. Last year in particular I found more trash and trashed areas along the creek than ever before. This will be a good thing for the creek and will eliminate empty salmon egg jars being found along the creek.
I did not see any snow at all except at the beginning where you cross the normally dry creek. |
