The kids & I camped up near Promontory Butte last night, and decided to do one easy hike before we headed back to Phoenix this afternoon. It was a quick drive over to Bear Canyon Lake (always one of their favorites) and we decided to do the full loop around the lake. In the past, we'd always stayed along the northwestern shore of the lake, so this was their first time seeing the rest of the lake.

We started a little before 8:30 and did the loop counterclockwise. It was pretty quiet when we started, but was fairly busy by the time we finished around noon. Most of the trail is easy, but there are some spots that required care with small kids. My kids preferred the south end of the lake, which was great with me since there are always less people down there.

The only negative for the day was a group of fishermen on the east side of the lake who had a nuisance dog with them. I could hear the dog when we first started, and you could hear it almost nonstop anywhere you were on the northern half of the lake. I was hoping they would be gone by the time we reached that side of the lake, but no such luck. I like dogs, but if a dog requires a heavy chain as a leash, and two men holding it back anytime someone approached, then maybe that dog shouldn't be out in public. It scared my kids to death, my son wouldn't even walk past it, I had to carry him until they were out of sight.

Other than that, it was a fun little hike with the kids, and they slept the entire way back to Phoenix.
