We were 1/10th of a mile from FR 418, which is the northern boundary for the fire closure and we had the lock combo to get in..yeehaa! Our first morning we got an early start to Red Mtn. We had the whole place to ourselves, peaceful and other worldly. Quite a pleasant surprise to see something like this. On our way out we went west up to some ridges and drainages to check for sites. Shortly after leaving the trail we heard the lovely sound of over a dozen youngins using their outside voices to the max. The were all brilliantly clad in the all current day glow colors obviously meant to match their volume. It was then my wife and realized how lucky we were to get there early. We would continue bushwacking checking for Native sites, only to find a few shards. It is beautiful country with great views to the north. |
