A couple of miles in we find some aircraft debris, it's not uncommon, but we've never seen an actual crash site. This time we did and it was vast. We finally figured out that it wasn't WW2 era because of cast aluminum pipe fittings and a circuit board remnant. There wasn't hundreds, but thousands of pieces, nothing large. There were old tire tracks present, which explained no large pieces, they trucked them out. When I got home I went to GE, pegged it and then the tower at Luke AFB. Then the search began and I was surprised to find a basic record.
Monday Dec 28 1964 a Fairchild C-123 Provider Departing Luke AFB, destination Gila Bend AF Aux Airport crashed on approach. Crew members 4, fatalities 4. |
