| no partners | | no plan, so i slept in and got a relatively late start
finally figured out san juan road was open and thought i would hit maricopa peak plus something else
up alta and then to the peak
came up on two gals doing the alta/bajada loop who had seen a rattlesnake and were about to turn back
think my reaction to their find ("cool, let's get photos!") convinced them it was okay to proceed
in fact, they were game for the off trail up to maricopa peak, provided i went first
went our separate ways on the descent
then came up on two older gals who had been looking for a hike at the trailhead
i suggested alta over bajada and they liked it
chatted for a few minutes, then i continued to star peak
rather than do the over and back on alta, thought i would check out the warrior re-route that mike (climbing partner) had told me about
definitely a different hike now, with switchbacks cut along the ridgeline instead of straight up
apparently it's been renamed to T-bone loop?
i never minded going up warrior, but didn't care for the steep descent
hard to pick out the original use trail
picked up ma ha tauk at the 19th avenue trailhead, then T-bone loop again at a ridgeline
very nice bit of trail
i liked both sections
back over star peak and down alta to finish
fun hike, good combo, double digits
the T-bone loop would make a nice short workout hike, with or without star peak |
