Route Scout Route Recorded  on Route Scout | Pop | Map | Popup | MapDEX
Aromatic creosote upon arrival. Imagine walking 2 miles to South Mountain. Then walking around the front Ma Ha Tuak Range. That pretty much sums up this hike.

Definite signs of atv/cycle tracks on trail, which is a sand wash, at times. Perhaps why the southern and east access has been closed. Assumed illegal trafficking but maybe it's off road activity. Sonoran National Monument signage driving in was sparkly new so maybe they're just working on that or all of the above.

Blanco chased rabbits and repeatedly smoked the 4.31 second 40-yard best @ Combine 2019... with occasional front paw cholla needles!

The hike was "nice" in fabulous weather. It's close to home and I love the Sonoran Desert. That said, enough of Margies Cove unless Sheep Mountain is in the mix.

It was great to meet Mark and see fellow HAZ'rs, sorry it was the most forgettable hike ever...lol

Drive
Road in has a high center and occasional deep cut ravine crossings. Used the BLM directions heading in. Tried the Google directions out. A hundred yard stretch of cobblestone consistency deep rocks suck you in like quicksand on the overpass. Wouldn't suggest without 4WD. Enjoyed the sharp ridged mountains, then realized it's what makes up Margies Peak.

Poppies not as bountiful as BiEagle'17. Clouds reduced petal spread potential too.
Moapa Bladderpod throughout - same mustard covering SoMo
Narrow-Leaved Popcorn Flower throughout - need to verify in photos

Moderate: Lupine, Scorpionweed*, Emory's Rock Daisy, Desert Globe Mallow

Light: chia, fiddleneck

Isolated: Buckwheat, Asian Mustard, Globe chamomile, African Daisies, Ocotillo

* I personally verified the high lift stench comparable to onion-b.o.-toejam. Chums verified he enjoyed it or something like that =)

dry Hazen Well Dry Dry
