Birthday Sunrise Hike up one of my favorite trails!

I arrived at 515am and the trailhead parking lot was empty!

I made my way up to the slick rock area before the Fremont Saddle and waited for the sunrise. Nothing special, as the sky was cloudless, but the silence and beauty of a sunrise over this canyon is always wonderful.

I started up and went to the Lone Pine viewpoint and enjoyed the early morning light. After a little exploring and some pictures, I started my way back down. If I did not have to work, I would have gone down the Cave Trail or Barks Canyon, but I was pressed for time. So, down I went.

I came across my first human contacts of the morning below the saddle. A couple of huffing and puffing dudes making good time up. They asked, “What time did you start??”. I guess they figured they were the first up there. Sorry…ha ha

There was a nice little flow in the drainage all the way down. The area at the mouth of Peralta Canyon had the little waterfall flowing. It was a nice treat!

I started seeing more and more people. A few large groups. Lots of people hiking up this trail on a Wednesday morning! Tourists and retired folks, I figure!

When I arrived at the parking lot, it was complete full and vehicles were already parking at the overflow lot. What a difference a few hours make.

A great way to spend a Birthday morning for sure!
