Even though the weather was really nice in the VOS today, a small group of us decided to head north a bit to find some social distancing. We saw nobody else on the hike, so social distancing was not an issue on this hike.

We started and ended the hike at the Mescal Spring TH. The parking lot is just across 89A from where FR 338 exits 89A.

We did a CCW lollipop loop: we took FR 338 for about 2 miles, and then took North Mingus Trail #105 for about 3 miles to the Mingus Summit at the Hanglider Launching Pad. Then we descended a bit on FR 408 until we came to the parking area where Trail 106 begins. Then we took Trail 106 to Trail 105A back to Trail 105. From there we retraced our steps back to the TH.

I enjoy this loop, and even though it was a bit chilly up on the summit, I was glad to do the hike today.

We came across a bit of snow on North Mingus Trail #105, although it was no problem to get around.

There were almost no wildflowers, but I did occasionally see a few western wallflowers.
