I was going to do Shaw Butte but with threatening rain, it's easier and faster for me to get off Lookout so I opted for that. And now, with a cooler day, I tackled the upper route which is a 250ft gain on not the best terrain in 1/4 mile. And then it's around to the south side and up that side of Lookout with the last part being 200 feet in two tenths. And the rest is just a normal jaunt around the western humps and east.

However, I did run into my former roommate/co-worker from my days at the Biltmore in 1981. I think this is the third time we've encountered each other on the trail. We exchanged a few words but she was on limited time so we both went our own ways. The Biltmore doesn't plan to open again until January but she rather doubts that it will open then. Kathy is a Banquet Captain.

I tried to pick up my speed for the last 3/4 mile or so. Probably saw a dozen hikers and dogs (saw way too much dog crap ON the trail :( , the most I've ever seen). It was a brisk afternoon and now it's time to get groceries. That has changed during retirement as I usually had cereal for breakfast and tv dinners for work lunch; now I have to plan my meals. I actually picked up a couple tv dinners as I kind of like them and haven't had any for awhile  . And guess what, I don't have to go to work tomorrow.

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled.
