So Lookout will be my outside gym as it's 5 minutes from my house. Today, I planned to park on the hill and hike up but then I saw a fire truck in the circle below the gate so I decided to walk up that way. There were also a few people sitting around there, one was getting a hair cut and another had some sort of big commercial movie camera. I made some comment about having a party but that didn't elicit further commentary so I don't know what that was all about.
And then as I approached the parking area I saw two more fire trucks, a big and little one. I started up the trail and scanned the mountain for the firemen or is it first responders now? Anyway, I finally saw a bunch of them just below Lookout's western hump where a few of you have done some rapelling. About this time I also ran into my former roommate/friend, Kathy, again but she was running so we just exchanged hellos. Isn't that odd I would run into her on my last two hikes and at different times here.
I tried to get a couple photos on my route up to the western saddle but am discovering that this Note's zoom is pretty bad; either that or I don't know how to use it properly. I continued my hike around the western humps and came back to the western saddle. As I hiked the trail below Lookout's western hump, some of the responders were part way down the mountain and looks like they were setting up some sort of rope system. One of them saw me and we exchanged waves and hellos.
You know it's very discouraging since all the new hikers have hit Lookout as there are trails all over the place. Really... if you come out to hike and get exercise, why are you cutting corners . This one side of the mountain will soon be all rock. One section has four cut-through trails. I can see where they keep putting up the big rocks to try and block them but they are going to have to resort to signs to be successful which of course, they said they don't want to do.

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled. |
