| no partners | | Took Dmitri out for another Sunday morning hike since the Steelers play Monday night. I haven't hiked Lookout Mountain in well over 20 years, so this seemed the like right time. We parked at the park on the southeast side and did the circumference trail counterclockwise, incorporating an inner loop up to the summit. There are a lot of unmapped trails all over the place, which will make for some nice short family hikes in the future. The hike to the summit was a decent workout without being too strenuous. The push to the false summit was pretty steep, just enough to use your hands a bit and make it interesting. On the way down below the saddle Dmitri took a minor spill but was fine. Years ago that would have been a minor meltdown.
Thin clouds most of the morning made it cool and breezy at times and kept us from getting sunburned. Trails weren't too crowded, which is always another plus. Got lunch at really nice Eastern European restaurant close by at 7th St. and Thunderbird. Gorged on pierogies and sausage and made up for all the calories we burned and then some. |
