| no partners | | With this nice but windy morning I wanted to get a little longer hike in and some elevation so this was my choice. I headed up Hawk's Nest and visited with a photographer for a bit trying to describe where the Esplanade Owls were. I took a few pics of the owls before hiking on. As I rounded the corner and headed WNW, the wind took over until I got down the hill and headed east.
The sky had some interesting clouds and with the changing light I tried to get some pics of the chollas and blooming Palo Verdes during the hike. For now, I needed to get up Western Vista which was made harder by my sore gluteus maximus from yesterday's Get Strong class (we did all sorts of lunges). As I got higher the wind and I had a couple contests which I eventually won as I topped out and took a moment to enjoy it before heading back down. I continued around the loop enjoying the wonderful temp and brisk breeze. I saw a few hikers as I proceeded and got back up to the eastern part of the loop. There were some nice blooming Palo Verde so I had to grab some pictures.
I took the exit to Valle Vista and headed down that and around to Desert Tortoise Trail enjoying the color, views, temperature and sky. Perfect tibber weather. I finally came around the other side and back to Hawk's Nest where I went back up to check out the owls. There was another photographer there and others so we all visited awhile including one fellow who lived below and a couple that had just moved here from Colorado. I snuck a few more pics of the little ones and headed back down to enjoy my beer and ritz crackers before heading home.
I think I'll skip Barbell class tomorrow and head out to the Phx Mountain Preserve; gotta enjoy these lovely morning temps at regular morning hours.

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled. |
