linda invited me to join her and daniela for a mount kimball hike
this would be a new one for me in an area i haven't done much hiking in
left town at 0500 and got started around 0645
the first three miles of this hike are on good trail at an easy grade
the ascent gets much steeper past the dam
i thought the trail was in good condition even with some big steps and a little loose rock
we turned away from the canyon at about five and a half miles, with the last stretch at a more moderate grade
nice summit with great views and we took a long snack break
there was one other hiker up top
i was happy to have a pole on the steep part of the descent
linda spotted a couple of coatimundis on the way down
there were quite a few wildflowers in pima canyon
enjoyed the sky island terrain:
plentiful saguaros, craggy canyon walls, some interesting bedrock in the creek bed and flowing water
very nice to meet daniela and good to hike with linda again
a great hike
