| partners | | Daniela and I opted for Kimball today to get a good hike in before Christmas. Got to the trailhead a little after 0630 and headed up Pima Canyon. Took our time on the ascent. First three miles were easy, then progressively steeper and rougher. Noticed a few new, well placed, switchbacks near the top of the canyon.
Had the summit to ourselves, where we ate lunch. The descent felt longer than seven miles. A helicopter was flying back and forth over the ridge as we headed down the canyon. It hovered over us long enough that I actually checked my InReach and phone to make sure I hadn’t accidentally triggered any sort of SOS. Hopefully they found whoever was in need of assistance.
Oddly enough, when I was on Kimball this past May, we had a few snow flurries, and today, on the first day of astronomical winter, it was incredibly warm—84 degrees at the finish. |
