Camped friday and saturday nites at the Cochise Stronghold campground with a group of super folks from "Friends Hiking and Camping Club". The campground was real nice but filled to max with a mixed bunch of young & old hikers/campers. Saturday we hiked to the divide on the Cochise Stronghold trail #279. Some clear pools of water along the way but little flow from springs. Next time we'll camp on west side of Stronghold.

Decided to test out a new day/overnight backpack on a local trail and see some ruins -- kinda a "twofer" so I meandered along the Cline Creek Ruins route on a beautiful friday. Only spotted a few potsherds but warmed up to my new Osprey Stratos 36, more volume than I needed for a few hour hike but very comfortable. The service road that parallels some of cline creek is ok but not much fun so I hiked in the creek bed which was pretty good after recent rains. I'd like the area a lot so i'll hike trail again just to see ruins in the area.

This was a very nice easy hike with a couple friends -- there was rain a couple days before so there was a little flow over falls but I'd like to see it again after an inch of local rainfall. Next time I'll hike a bit farther upstream of falls which looked pretty interesting for the quarter mile or so I explored.

Had opportunity to hike with a diverse group of fine hikers, 10 including me, guys, gals, old and young. We hiked about 2.5 miles up east end of Aravaipa Canyon and setup our camp for nite. We hiked in and out of creek but water wasn't very cold. Got some snowflakes and light rain the first nite -- had some good bourbon, whatnot and warm grub to keep us from freezing. The next day we hiked 4 miles up Hell Hole Valley (canyon) along Deer Creek and back. A wonderful experience. That nite was clear but cold, more bourbon, whatnot and warm grub to keep us warm. Ice over everything next morning. Hiked backed out after warm breakfast on day 3.

This was a pleasant hike with a couple of friends along Wet Beaver Creek to gauge station/weir then back to Bell trail to the "crack". Still lots of fall color but obvious from all the leafs on the ground and a few bare trees that winter's around the corner. Water flow/level was down but should be real good after rain last couple days.

Friends
Went on a FRIENDS HIKING CLUB hike with about 10 happy hikers. The hike was a shortened version of the "Woods Canyon - Mogollon Rim" hike but nevertheless a pleasant hike and wonderful getaway. Lots of folks around Woods Canyon Lake but didn't run into any other hikers along the trail. Thought it might be a good place to fish but think otherwise now -- there was water all along the trail but doubt if the flow was adequate for fishing habitat. NO MOSQUITOES!!!!

This was a nice hike from 2 weeks back that I went on with the "Friends Hiking and Camping Club". Thanks to Rich who led the hike, we started the hike at the north end of Trailhead 28, the high point, and hiked counterclockwise to Little Yeager Canyon Trail #533 and then the Yeager Cabin Trail #111. We finished our hike by hunting for Geronimo's Cabin -- Geronimo Pena that is, a "wood cutter" that logged in the Mingus Mountain area from 1920 to 1957. Next time I'm up in Prescott I'll do a little research at the Sharlot Hall Museum to find more info on Geronimo Pena.

I'm hooked on hiking to ruins so I decided to take the long drive, short hike, to St. Clair Mountain near Horseshoe Dam. I wasn't disappointed. I'd been to Horseshoe Dam couple times but didn't know there's were ruins near by, it's a beautiful area and we got a touch of rain on our way up, followed by crisp, clear skies. The road to dam is a mix of paved and well graded dirt. My belief is that the Indians used this site to store food in pots cuz there were so many sherds and the structures were not elaborate nor was there any signs of leisure activities such as petroglyphs -- I believe they just needed a place to store/hide food from invaders.

I hiked to trailhead #4 on previous visit to area but didn't have time to hike trail itself. What I found on first visit was that road to trailhead was best suited for high profile vehicle or bike. So a few weeks later I came back to hike trail and brought my old "mountain bike". I road my bike from parking area to trailhead (~1.5 miles), parked da bike and hiked the trail. It's a beautiful area, plenty of water even though no recent rains -- the water fall at top wasn't flowing but I imagine that it flows ;) nicely after a little rain. I hiked on a monday and I didn't see a soul.

Here’s yet another old, but not too old, hiking journal from Bud. We, 4 hikers from the Friends Hiking Club, were doing a pre-hike for an upcoming Coon Spring Trail #124 hike. Along the way we decided to see if we could find nearby ruins that one of us had heard of. Sure enough we found a coral off of Nf-203a which was supposedly near the ruins. Today, thanks to the CannondaleKid (aka Mark), I found out that the ruins are the Nordhoff-Hope Cliff Dwellings.

Sorry, this journal is for another kinda old (Oct. 2015) hike outside of AZ. Went on this easy hike located about 30 miles north of Whistler, BC, to see Nairn waterfalls, in the Nairn Falls Provincial Park. The well-groomed and maintained trail along the Green River, which flows north, east is about 1 mile long. The trail and park are in a beautiful setting of diverse forest douglas fir, western redcedar, western hemlock and paper birch. Mountains to the east have small glaciers. The park is also home to the Rubber Boa snake.

I completed this short hike with a friend a few months back and just decided to post -- it was a short hike but beautiful scenery. At the end of the trail was the "Whistler Train Wreck", several trains cars that derailed circa 1956. I wondered why there weren't any downed trees around the cars and just discovered that the derailed cars were dragged away from the tracks to their "final resting place" -- therefore no downed trees nearby. The river that runs along the track is the Cheakamus River. The wreck is actually in Function Junction, a town named after the wreck occurred, that is just south of Whistler BC. The graffiti artwork was a real treat. The area near the wreck was obviously used by trick bike riders.
