This was my 28th Superstitions summit! Huge shoutout to @John10s for his detailed trip guide and route for helping me knock this one off. The off-trailing is about as good as it gets. I was also able to knock off the final section of Dutchman trail and Peter's Trail that I had never been on, so that made for a very successful day. Only saw some backpackers, until I was close to the trailhead, which was a bit of a zoo.

Had the opportunity to hike this while staying at Castle Hot Springs. What a beautiful hike, there is a historic flag at the top. The views of Lake Pleasant are beautiful. Only sad thing is this hike is only open to guests staying, so will have to stay here again to hike some of the other trails. But a really well put together trail!

Did this loop counter-clockwise to get the off-trail done with first. What a pleasant trek Randolph Canyon was, just enough flowing water to not have to get your feet wet but also be able to enjoy the sound and solitude of the canyon. Hit Red Tanks, which felt like deja vu from a month ago when we did the super Red Tanks Loop. Not as much water there as there was but still flowing good! Hit the Coffee Flat Trail, which was rocky in some sections but not nearly as bad as Red Tanks. Woodbury was the most difficult one to follow but still not bad. Was really cool to see the JF ranch, which happens to be my maiden name initials too. We only saw one other truck at the Woodbury TH and followed the footprints for a good while.

What a fun day exploring some of the heart of the burns from the fire, good to see some growth and a lot of cacti that lived!

Time to start catching up on all my trips from the past few months too.

What a fun one! I enjoyed both Geronimo Head & Malapais, first time exploring this area and it sure was amazing seeing 0.0 other people. Saw some of the aftermath of the Woodbury fire on Malapais and a lot of retardant (on the catclaw of all things...). Happy to add peaks 11 and 12 to the list of summits I have hit out in these mountains, still a lot more to explore but this sure was memorable and epic way to spend a Saturday. We lucked out with nice and cloudy 70's for the majority of the hike. Took the creek bed back down and some stagnant water. The use-trail up to Geronimo head was pretty nice to have to make time go by a little faster but picked about 30 cacti out of my legs the rest of the time haha.

took my book out for a little jaunt at Butcher Jones. First time exploring this trail, sure has some good views of the lake and even Flat Iron. Gnats are a little bad towards the water but besides that, a lovely day!

Catching up on the past few weeks. A fun day exploring a loop of Lower La Barge Canyon to Boulder Canyon trail. First time in La Barge to the box and through to Calavry. It certainly has become an overgrown mess past the box, but made or all the more adventure. La Barge is truly amazing, would love to try upper La Barge soon (just another thing to add to my list). This canyon is truly spectacular, would almost like to visit after some rain soon to see how much water gets back in there! Did not see any one till we ran into some groups headed towards Battleship.

This came across my radar after seeing it in Backpacker Mag as the 5th top hardest day hike in America. Wanted to put myself through another good challenge, and James was happy to join. We pushed ourselves, and made the trek over an hour faster than I thought we would. We paced ourselves nicely and passed a lot of people that started 2 hours before us, felt good to feel in shape and ready for it. TBH did not really know what to expect since it is so unlike any other hike I have done. It definitely was a challenge, much different than doing a rim to rim to rim. The skyline trail leaves no room for "taking it easy." Took the tram down after a well deserved drink at the bar.

Took my mom out for some off-trail fun for some fall colors up on the Rim.

Started from Fish Hatchery, headed out on Highline and then up the very steep trail of Horton to the Rim Road (my mom was probably questioning her decision to hike with me at this point). Then ventured off into Turkey Creek. Pretty easy moving along the creek and through the forest. Saw some Maples and Aspens and no one in sight, could not as for more. I would say in one week it will hit its prime, but it was beautiful nevertheless. First time on the Babe Haught Trail for myself as well, and really enjoy the views of the rim!

Another peak knocked off, really liked this one! No trail off of Black Mesa but straight forward to the top. First ones to sign the trip long since March of this year. Also wanted to try out the Garden Valley Loop to see HackBerry Spring,since we have not been on those. Was a little warm towards the end but great to see the water in the desert!

Black Mesa Trail is destroyed from recent rains that made it all the more of an adventure!

Need to catch up on my HikeAZ logs from the past months but ready to get back into the swing of adventures out here.

Back to the Superstitions for the first real adventure after wilderness opened, happy to be back in my favorite set of mountains. First time exploring both these trails, and loved them both! Both are marked pretty well with cairns, I imagine at one point it was not that easy to find the robber's roost, but still had the GPS all loaded it up. Peralta was pretty empty both when we started and finished but just a matter of time before it is a madhouse. Till next time Superstitions.

Ventured into the Mazatzals. Started nice and early and beat the boards of people to Big Kahuna. It’s flowing super well, probably best I have seen it. Still snow on the trail at this point. Didn’t see a soul the entire morning. Was like a creek flowing through the entire trail. Got to the turnoff and Deadman creek was flowing great! We hugged the rim over the falls for an additional mile to have our picnic. Found another random waterfall north of these too, was impressive!

On the way out we saw the famous @joebartles. I had An instinct it was him, and the hikeaz shirt gave it away but still was so excited I finally got to see him in person. Next time I’ll ask for autographs.

Barnhart trail was a mess, so busy coming out so James and I decided to run the 3.5 miles down and get out as fast as we could!

A great day, spectacular falls.

The waterfall off Hogs Canyon was running so well, what a site to see after the snow melt! Did not hang out very long before heading on. Accessed the ridge using the scree/wash up to 2 very helpful cairns (thanks to whomever put those there!) Once on the ridge, was easy going, and easy to follow. Once at the top of the ridgeline, was surprised to see some snow on the trail, at its very ends though. Took the ridgeline over to the siphon draw. Only saw two groups of hikers till that point.

Wanted the hike down siphon draw to be done as fast as possible. SO many people, and the trail had been somewhat destroyed due to recent rain and snow. It was a bloodbath (literally blood on the trail). It is so dangerous with that many people. Anyways, got that part over as quickly as possible. Took Jacobs Crosscut back to Broadway trailhead. I had never been on Jacobs Crosscut, but it would be a great one to go run one day. Great 15 mile day!

Took my mom for our first time to the White Tanks after a snowy week! The highest peak was covered in a dusting, looked beautiful. We took Mesquite to Willow Springs (which was running more than I expected) to Ford Canyon to Waddell. Logged just under 10 miles. What a unique canyon! Quite a bit of water held in areas, really did love it!

Tracked close to 8 miles, by going up Peter's Canyon to the saddle, and took off the off trail! Brutal catclaw and slow moving. But it was so worth it, the views at the top were some of the absolute best in the Superstitions.

We decided to try attempting a creek hike down, following the brush. Was no better the trail up to it. Met up with Tortilla creek and followed it to the Peters Canyon trail again.

Fortunately have a good 4WD to get us to the TH too! First people to sign log book since Jacob in 2017. Surreal.

For my 8th time down into the canyon, I figured to add Battleship. I have seen it over and over but never explored the route. Went down South Kaibab, to the rest house at Bright Angel Campground, up Bright Angel to the 2 mile turnoff and then headed off trail.

The bouldering problem to the top of Battleship felt much more like a class 4 haha, a little narrow but so fun to top off a day. First people to have logged the book in almost a week (I am assuming due to weather) but the trail is pretty well marked but still had the route downloaded in case! Did not really check it until the north end of the Battleship to make sure I was in the right area to climb on up. The summit views are amazing! Made me buy the national geographic maps of the GC to start planning the next adventures....

First try down to the actual trail head did not work out, so started from the road. Would have loved to explore the mesa a little more. But there was barely any water the day we hiked this. So much solitude, we did not see a single person on Peter's trail. Relatively easy to follow but still over grown in some areas.

I would love to explore taking the mesa down into Dutchman or La Barge Canyon. This hike inspired the future route to tortilla mountain.

Added Aylors Arch and Black Mesa Top Summit to be close to 14 miles. What an amazing day. Seeing water flowing in Boulder Canyon. We went up Aylors first, what a cool spot. Could not find any mailbox though. The route is not that difficult to follow. Went back to Dutchmans trail and headed on the connector Bull Pass trail up to the off trail to Black Mesa Top Summit. One of the better day hikes I have completed!
