| no partners | | I was due for another trip to HH and hoping to escape what has become possibly my worst allergy season on record. Itchy watery eyes plagued me all the way until I reached the top of the mountain heading in, then the air seemed a bit less heavy. I hit the trailhead about 8AM and found a silver truck already there. The first crossing of Workman creek looked promising as the water level was up a bit since November's trip with Skillpore. About a mile after the crossing I was approached by a large dog heading the opposite direction, followed by it's owner. After a quick wave I was asked "Hey, you wouldn't be AlMal would you"? Nice to meet Joe Tele4212, had camped down there Wednesday night and singing the allergy blues already. I made good time the rest of the way in and found my favorite spot empty. Around 2PM it began to rain, get windy, and the air seemed to change. Seems like everything is blooming at the same time. It was a sneezy runny rest of the day and night. A couple showed up later and set up camp in the first (rocky) spot, but they were quiet. The falls below camp were running nicely. Friday I had an antihistamine for breakfast and it was a better day. About mid-afternoon two more guys packed in and said they were meeting several others as well. They moved into the lower spot next to mine. They were pretty quiet also. They mentioned that there had been an article in AZ Hwy's about Hells Hole, probably why I'm seeing so many people here in March. No Tipi dwellers this year though. Hiked out Saturday morning and felt OK until I started to descend towards the Salt river. It was windy and the air almost hurt to breathe... |
