After seeing pics and hearing how crowded the parking lots and trails have been I thought I’d see if I could find the access to this trail from the CCRP campground area so I could stay off the trails in the park and away from people.
I parked in the Overton lot at 8:20 AM and to my surprise there was only 3 cars...normal for a pre-virus day. Had all ready told Judy my plan to walk the road to the campground, so followed the plan. Had a few false starts before I ended up on Clay Mine Trail that ended up taking me over to the Overton Trail! Oh well I tried! Did take the West Boundary Trail and finally got to where I wanted.
While on a narrow part of Overton 3 ladies were approaching me. Best option was to lean into the uphill side with one leg up facing away from the trail. As they got close I said good morning and got into position. First one passed but next 2 stopped right behind me and asked if I was going to climb up there... then they moved closer and looked over my shoulder! The hiker that walked past said ‘I think he is trying to stay away from us’ I said You Got It! My wife was right again as she has been telling me it’s really hard to keep 6 feet away from people while hiking. |
