Once by myself in August 2020, and then again with my son as an overnight backpacking trip in September 2020. I was disappointed in the lake last August because it was mostly drained and ugly. Then for the backpacking trip we only hiked in 3 miles to camp and never made it to the lake. A fellow hiker told me it was beautiful this year so I gave it another try and I'm glad I did. Started out early (6:45am) because I knew the last mile didn't have much shade. This year, the trail had more small streams over the path and under which kept it interesting. We got an unexpected surprise from a young buck pouncing across the trail, but I wasn't fast enough to snag a picture! A passing hiker said he spotted a moose at the trail head but we missed it. Then we were completely surprised to find a lingering patch of snow towards the top!! How Fun!! There were plenty of little critters among the rocks near the top to keep us guessing to what they were and at the lake to keep us company. We packed in some camp chairs and enjoyed the scenery and getting occasional goosebumps (breeze off of lake) for an hour before heading back. Great Hike!! |
