I feel very blessed for the sunny, cool weather, no thunderstorms in the forecast, and no smog/forest fire smoke. I hiked in 6 miles to set up base camp with my hiking buddy (my son) and five other hiking companions (Jon, David, Chris, Rich, Coumarane). The trail was highly traveled by humans, dogs, horses, and even llamas. The area was forest-filled with pine trees and the Henry's Fork river we followed all the way in. Unfortunately 80% for the pine trees were destroyed by the pine beetle and ruined the lush green scenery. Luckily, lots of new saplings litter the forest floor. It'll take years for the forest to restore its true self again. But the surrounding mountain ranges were astounding as we neared the higher rocky peaks and caught glimpses of my ultimate goal, King's Peak, the highest point in Utah. |
