| no partners | | Cathy found the bulk of this loop on Google Earth a few years ago and wanted to hike it again now that she is feeling stronger (thank you steroids). I did this as part of a longer hike a couple of years ago with @tibber and @Sun_Ray. This loop starts just south of the Surrey Hills TH in Cave Creek and incorporates the eastern end of the Slate Trail for the northern section to complete the loop. The south and east sections are marked with CC horseshoe markers. I believe the Az. Mountain Bike Assoc. took part in building this trail for one of their races a few years ago. Anyway, it has no name that I can find and it's very pretty. It feels much more secluded than it is.
Over 1/2 mile of the hike is in deep soft sand while in a wash and the remainder is pretty rough and washed out due to the heavy rains a couple of weeks ago. We went CW and kept hoping for the breeze that never came. Roid Girl did great and we finished the climb up to the Surrey Hills saddle in the dark but headlamps weren't needed. |
