Timing didn't work out to go somewhere more interesting this weekend, so plan B was a solo hike at South Mountain. I wanted to do something different than my usual route, so I repeated a longer one I'd last hiked in April 2022 that combines 13 trails, 3 trailheads, and a brief stretch on roads through some neighborhoods.

It was in the mid-50s when I started at 7AM, and it was fairly busy at Pima Canyon, as expected for a nice day in November. I got stuck behind some slow-moving traffic on the rocky chute on Marcos de Niza, but the crowds thinned out on Guadalupe Ridge. I overshot the Corona de Loma intersection slightly to stop by the beat-up Harvester benchmark, then backtracked and headed down Old Man Trail. This was only my second timing hiking that one, and it was steep, rocky, and loose, as I remembered.

The trails got busier again near Corona de Loma Trailhead, and I turned around there and started the long uphill stretch to Buena Vista Lookout...going up Corona de Loma definitely felt like the longest part of the hike, and I had to shed the long sleeves before starting up. I noticed some new signs near Buena Vista, and the city has replaced the stickers on a lot of the sign posts on multiple trails.

I took the first break of the day at Dobbins Lookout--busy there, too--then back to Buena Vista and down Geronimo Trail. I hiked a half mile through the neighborhoods to Mormon Trailhead, which was even busier, then hiked Javelina Canyon, Ridgeline, and Beacon Hill back to Pima Trailhead. I decided to add one more lap on Marcos de Niza before finishing up just before 1:15PM. It was nice to do this one again, and even though it's not the most interesting, the weather was perfect, some stretches of the route offered relative solitude, and the clouds were nice.
