I defaulted to South Mountain, my go-to plan B, when other hiking plans didn't work out today. I hadn't been there in a few months, and I immediately noticed how much greener everything is after the recent rain. I started from Pima Canyon around sunrise, and it was comfortably cool, in the low/mid-40s. There were lots of people out, as expected, but it was cool enough that I didn't bother taking any breaks on an out-and-back to Dobbins Lookout. The trails were damp and had some puddles in places, but pretty good overall.

There are some new signs around Dobbins and Buena Vista that have been added since I was last there. Just before I crossed the road on the way back from Dobbins, I had the sun in my eyes and thought I saw two dogs coming toward me on the trail with no owners around, and I realized they were coyotes...I won that game of chicken and they wandered off the trail and watched me pass

. The crowds were really bad by the time I finished around 10:30AM...lots of big groups on the trails, and it was one of those days where people pull up to ask for your parking spot the minute you get near the car. Hopefully I'll be back somewhere with a lot fewer people next weekend...
