I wasn't going to be able to escape the heat for a more interesting hike this weekend, so I headed to South Mountain early before work on Friday to enjoy those chilly mid-80s lows

. I started ~5AM, and the trails were pretty quiet the whole way--I only saw handful of mountain bikers and a few other hikers. But that included @trekkin_gecko and @johnlp along National Trail. We recognized each other and stopped briefly to introduce ourselves and say hello...great meeting both of you!

I continued on to Dobbins Lookout, took a quick water break, then headed back. It was getting a little warm when I finished ~8:30AM, and the parking lot was ~ half full. I didn't see much interesting wildlife other than a big lizard under a rock as I was hiking out. I initially thought was a Gila monster, but it didn't have the bright coloring. I hadn't been to SoMo in almost two months, and it looked like there were some new sign posts added along Marcos de Niza, and the parking lot at Buena Vista Lookout got some new blacktop since I was last there.
