| no partners | | I ended up back at South Mountain this week and put in a little effort to come up with a different route with a new combination of familiar trails. I got to Pima Canyon ~4:30AM and found the gate locked. I thought I remembered seeing the gate open pre-5AM in the past, but I parked on 48th Street and walked up the road, then on to Marcos de Niza and up Guadalupe Ridge. It was a nice sunrise, and there were a few people on the trails before 5AM.
I dropped down Young Man Trail and followed Desert Classic through some areas I hadn't hiked before, then added a short spur over to Corona de Loma TH. Lots of bikers and hikers in that area, as expected. Then the steep climb up Corona de Loma to Buena Vista Lookout. Not long after getting on National Trail, I passed a rattlesnake halfway on the trail, then hiked back through Hidden Valley and finished around 8:30AM. Very humid day...definitely the sweatiest hike of 2024 so far. |
