My girlfriends and I have a bit of a tradition where the Birthday Girl gets to choose a hike on her day. Today was my friend, Daniela's, birthday and she chose Flatiron. Being a holiday, it was sort of tough for everyone to coordinate schedules, and after the excuses of "I want to go shopping" "I'll be out of town" "I'm pregnant" "I don't want to die" and "I'm sick", it ended up just being the two of us. We started around 7:30am and managed to stay ahead of the horde of people that we would later encounter on our way back down. It was a pleasant climb up, we hung out at the top for a while and had a snack, then made our way back down. We probably lost a good 25 minutes on our way down just dealing with the crowds. Not a big deal though, everyone was in a good mood and friendly. We crossed paths with Sam on our way down too--nice to see you again, Sam!
