We decided to head over to explore Sundance canyon since nobody else was in there. Such a cool little spot and enjoyed views from a cave/alcove before exiting. We made our way down the canyon and had a brief pit stop at the spring. Skies started to look a bit dark, but we kept moving forward. From looking at storm radar earlier, I knew the heavy rains weren’t going to start until approx 2:30pm, so we had plenty of time. We warmed up in the sunshine for a bit, then the rain started up again. Light rains on and off had us decide to turn around. When we got back to the entry, it was sunny again, so we decided to head off and explore the creek heading towards bear canyon. Wow, what a treat! There were beautiful canyon walls lined with hanging gardens and gorgeous flowers. Our aim was to relax and float in a larger pool just downstream, but then the rain started back up. As it was nearing afternoon, it was time to head back to the exit. We were shocked at the amount of families and backpacking groups entering the canyon in the afternoon, while it was raining and thunder was roaring. A woman in jeans even asked us how many more minutes to the water; she’d only gone 1/4 mile if that.... this spot sure is beautiful, but a tad on the crowded side for my liking. Would definitely go back to explore bear canyon though! |
