Started from amphitheatre trailhead and took nature trail - super trail - agua caliente to the saddle and back. The mountains are alive again with water, flowers and brilliant green everywhere. Very nice.
Missed stepping on a rattlesnake by less than an inch
Climbed San Jacinto using the Marion Mountain trail near Idyllwild. the TH was full but people were spread out and it never seemed crowded at all except for the short 0.3 mile spur to the summit when you meet up with the tram crowd.
the ascent is pretty steep and mostly through glorious forest. it mellows out briefly in a few spots but not much. i thoroughly enjoyed the ascent, and a lot of it is shaded. Little Round Valley campground on the way up is a cool spot.
I spent about 15 minutes on the summit having a snack. uneventful downhill. i jogged some of it, but a lot is too steep to do so. got quite warm on the bottom.
Hiked the Sawmill Flat trail out to the Flat with it's old building, as well as out to a forest meadow. Really this trail just wanders around in a beautiful forest, so that's cool. we didn't see anyone at all
Beautiful morning hike up Devils Slide with wonderful views of the canyon, suicide rock and tahquitz. this is a great trail and normally very busy. we did this on a weekday and it was pretty low key
at the trail junction, the girls decided they wanted to go all the way to Tahquitz.
the final leg to tahquitz after the PCT junction again offers incredible views of the canyon and high country. went up to the lookout, which is currently unmanned. found a superb spot for picnic. nice and mellow hike back down. saw more people coming up at this point.
this is a great hike, probably my favorite of the trip
we did the classic suicide rock hike from deer springs TH.
great hike through and through. beautiful forest ascent, then some outstanding views over idyllwild and of tahquitz from the slabs of the summit. had a great picnic up there. hardly anyone up there despite a popular hike. weather was unbelievable - a few sprinkles then mixed sun and clouds. mid 70's
