Day 2 of my tour de Superstitions with my Colorado friends. Boulder Canyon has long been one of my favorite trails ever since my first time up here in 1988. This one along with Peralta Trail which I had done a few days earlier, really made me fall in love with these mountains. I grew up in Colorado and was a bit of a "Mountain Snob" when I arrived here. I thought it was so quaint that my new found Arizona friends called these little hills mountains. But, once I got to visit them, I realized just how special they are. I am hoping to do a little transference in the same way with my childhood friends that are visiting now.

We hit the trailhead at Canyon Lake Marina about 230pm. We took our time getting to the viewpoints. It wasn't particularly hot, but my friends high mountain forest dogs are not accustomed to the rocky and shadeless trails here in the Superstitions.

The views are the usual spectacular. Not many clouds out to give a contrast, but clear skies and nice light at the 2nd viewpoint made for some "beautifuller" views. We enjoyed the views, gave the doggies some water and treats and started back to the trailhead.

We saw 3 parties heading down as we were heading up and a solo hiker came up to the 2nd view when we were getting ready to head back down. Not bad for this trail. I try to stay away on the weekends up here this time of year.

I am concerned about the amount of grass that I saw out there. With the complete lack of rain over the past year, I have a bad feeling that the parts of the Superstitions that have not burnt up will be next this coming fire season. One lightning strike, one careless idiot, and we could see this area roasted a la the Sawtooth and Superstition Fires. We'll have to change the name to the Superstition Grasslands once these fires run their course.
