Got an invite from my favorite Steelers fan to join him on this hike. I have never hiked in this area and since we both have been vaccinated, why not!

The drive out along HWY 85 and the series of dirt roads into the Sonoran National Monument was uneventful. We set off to see how far we could go, with a plan to explore the Brittlebush Trail a little as well.

This area is short on flashy scenery, but offers up some decent views. The hike is along an old jeep road and a wash. We could have continued up to the higher section of the hike, but opted to hang a right and explore the Brittlebush Trail a little.

The Margies Cove trail is flat and gets interesting when it goes into a little sandy slot canyon. The mile or so we hiked down the Brittlebush Trail was a more scenic area for sure. We both thought this area resembles part of the San Tan MRP.

The utter lack of rain lately provided no wild flowers except some saguaros starting to bloom. Looking at other triplogs for this area, I will try and time my next visit with a wetter winter/spring to see some flowers.

Lots of deer and coyote scat along the trail, but only a hawk, some ground squirrels & bunnies and some ever present buzzards present. We did come a across a wounded gopher snake in the road on the way out. It appeared to be barely alive after being run over by a vehicle. :(

In spite of the sporadic cooler winds and clouds, the heat got to me a little towards the end. It was probably in the 90's by then. The heat always reminds me I don't fair well when it starts getting hotter.

A nice and long hike, excellent exercise and good times with Mr DarthStiller, as usual.
