Correctly guessed that there would not be much of a crowd here, only met 1 coming down at the junction with 626 , everyone else was riding. After coming down from the lookout a herd of 3 ATV’s were parked by the gate and on the way down FR 27 was passed by a couple of Jeep rubicons. No snow or ice remains on Mt. Ord,some dusting seen over on 4 peaks, only a trickle of water in the drainages coming down to 626 and over into Oak canyon. Wildflowers were mildly displaying in the lower areas up to the old mill site. A little too breezy to linger around the towers and lookout, especially with a sweat soaked shirt , so after briefly enjoying the expansive views in isolation headed back down. Couple of squirrels were the only wildlife encountered, one stood its ground in the road giving me pause, if you ever try to get a nest out of an attic you’ll realize how viscous they can be Further along the Dukes of Hazzard passed by me in their jeeps, I stood well off the road just in case their brakes failed, I had plenty of warning with the country music they had on their blaring radio. This road walk lasted just long enough to have some back spasms start during the last couple of miles requiring some sitting and stretching breaks Glad I got this done before warmer weather sets in,only used a liter of water today. |
