Got sick suddenly a 2nd week in a row. Shook it off in bout 24 hours again. Much like Christmas, this time no partying for new years 😪 Well a couple days later I can still hike, right? Hmmmm

Decided to take on a lengthy adventure by myself. Upon arrival I noticed the gates are locked at 7 pm. Should be ok despite my usual late start. Early on in the adventure my fully charged new-to-me phone went blank & completely unresponsive. There goes the description & map 😠

The route was well marked with posts. Some there for no apparent reason. So I stopped paying attention to them. When I should have been almost done, I made a left. The posts then ceased. When I came upon another unmarked jct, I decided it was best to turn around. After adding extra mileage & AEG, I realized if I had turned right, the other TH was nearby 🤔

Now on my way back, still felt confident & prepared. Then further in, I suddenly feel sick. My pace slows + I pause at times due to stomach pain. I quickly grow weak. I'm now sprawled out in the dirt with noone around. I feel horrible & unable to continue. The sun is dropping & I'm getting cold.

During my misery I realize it is growing ? if I can get out in time & don't have a working cell 📱 After emptying my stomach, I begin moving again. 5:30 🌇 & hungry me decides to eat some 🍪 oops. 6 pm headlamp, jacket & gloves. Coyotes hooting & hollering. Reach TH 6:30 but bathroom needed. Leave 6:45 😏

Had no plans to hike Christmas weekend. However, a covid scare annexed me from family gatherings. Quickly started improving so an unplanned hike the next day at least!

Had never combined these 2 peaks into a single hike so away I went. Took a shorter, steeper route than previously up Shaw butte + quickly turned right when nearing the peak to avoid the pavement.

Retraced my steps nearly to the starting point b4 veering off toward N Mtn. Weaved left of the mtn b4 turning onto 101. This brought me back to where people were. Quickly losing light but turned right for the 2nd peak. Timed perf for an amazing 🌇 at the top.

Then retraced my steps again since I was now in darkness. Will save a longer loop for when I start a bit earlier. More adventurous possibilities out there than expected 🙂

Joined a meetup for this outing. They were doing a loop hike connecting with national & kiwonis. Doing the loop in reverse of what others seemed to be doing. This took out the steeper portion early.

When we reached Kiwonis TH, I veered off to double the mileage. My plan failed. I then just checked out trails with no plan in place. I even attempted to climb up to the towers. Scaled the mtn only to find a 2nd 1 behind it with a steep drop off inbetween and a busy road near the top. Another failure for me during this outing.

I then ended up at the same TH I originally broke off from. Needless to say, no one should follow my route. 😒 I finally added 1 more easy trail to bump up the mileage a bit only to end up on yet another trail which had me wandering around even longer. At least I spotted a cute baby coyote after returning to my 🚗

Ended up with plan C for this 1. For some reason I decided to follow an idea from another trail site that I'm sure no one has ever heard of 😀 Their write up was difficult to follow & I ended up going the wrong way early on.

That is fine as I was curious bout this other route anyway. However, cross cut eventually grew a bit uneventful. I finally saw people & knew it must be siphon draw. I passed that and then veered off to prospectors view.

Finally some climbing + something diff. I then connected to treasure loop. Gaining some views + another geocache attempt. Hmmm, my GPS seems to need to be calibrated & updated. It is now getting a bit l8 so I decide it would be best to turn around here.

On the way back I was treated to a pretty sunset. It then became dark but took awhile for the horizon to turn dark also. Finally got back to the Broadway TH with the help of my headlamp.Merry Christmas fellow adventurers! 🎅🎄

After enduring a horrific 2021, it's finally time to begin bushwacking again. My 1st outing of this type since Feb. So I reunited with my peakbagging buddy & returned to a beyond remote destination.

A bit more specific, the 74 a ways past Wickenberg. Then turn right on a dirt/ paved road for over 18 miles. Then turn right onto a rocky jeep road to the starting point. It is pretty scenery up here.

U will encounter several water crossings. U will then begin hiking on what was once a road. Although it can be difficult to follow at times. The route will then get rockier & steeper. It does get easier to follow & tamer. There was even a cairn out there!

The final ascent is steep bushwacking. The views quickly become major. U then encounter a false summit. The last section is boulder hopping. They will shift on u. There r drop offs on both sides.

The registry had not been signed since April 2017 by HAZ top dog Joe, the high flying Eagle + another advanced friend. We took a shortcut on the way back. This caused us to get scratched up & forced us to crawl at times. 😖

Had this 1 on my radar for a while. Actually got someone to agree to do this. Yes it requires some set up but u r able to cover so much more ground this way. We both had lots of fun with this 1. Already planning the next car chain outing.

Much beauty to behold during the early portions of this outing. Feels like u have left PHX far behind. Not overly difficult. During the middle section, the trail becomes difficult to follow. At 1 point we tried following cows. 🐮🐂

U truly get away from it all out here. We saw no one the last 10+ miles.🙂 Road to Spur cross fine for cars. Drive to 7 Springs is rough but peeps do take cars.

Had been wanting to return to this spot for quite some time. Didn't have a capable vehicle, then came the 🔥 causing the extended closure. Next it was too hot. Finally I seized the opportunity by finding a few brave adventurers with the help of Meetup.

B4 contemplating this 1, be aware that it requires 19 miles of off roading to reach the TH. The road starts smooth but gets very rough further in. Only jeeps at TH.

The hike warrants comparisons to the road 😛 All smooth sailing early on. Bout 2 miles in u hit the only jct. Soon thereafter you reach the saddle. Good spot to pause, power up & put on the climbing gloves.

Now it's game on! The trail turns rocky & the scrambling begins. The scrambling then gives way to full on climbing. Impressive 360 from the summit. A total of 3 hours of off roading. This outing is a unique adventure.

Turn L off the 87 opposite of Mt Ord. This road is paved, the next turn is a car friendly dirt road. The next 2 turns are on rocky roads not suitable for cars or crossovers. Got started a bit later than expected due to these roads.

Great temps for this Halloween outing. Saw no one on the trails 😎 Constant beautiful views through the 1st portion of this hike. The Ship Creek trail then travels downward steeply on uneven ground. Go right at the creek.

I briefly checked out trail 95 b4 returning to 88. After it winds u left, the trail begins to get seriously overgrown to where it is a major challenge. Unable to make it to the final jct. May attempt again next year. 👻

A lady I met on a meetup outing wanted to return here & it was on my radar also. She convinced me to start a bit earlier. Away we went.

This is on the way to 🌎 A ways past Picket Post. When u exit the 60, u will soon be on dirt roads. The road eventually becomes too rough for cars. Getting there is pretty straight forward.

U start the hike on road for a mile & 1/2. U then veer right & begin the trail. Not very difficult. A ways in we turned left to reach the cabin. This was our turn around point. Only saw 1 couple & a group of 3 backpackers out there. Worthy escape. 😌

Actually had social plans outside of hiking for this weekend 🙀 So to at least partially pacify myself, I joined a Fri nt hike. Drove to the far end of Tempe for this short outing.

Most of the EG was during the 1st half. Leaving the 2nd half to be a stroll through the darkness. The moonlight was sufficient for bout 1/2 the hike.

Very few there at 1st. By the end, it was only us.

At 1 point 10 peeps were signed up for this outing. Ended up with 3.Guess I should expect that for this type of trip. Once u depart the freeway, strictly HC. There is nowhere to park so just left the 🚙 in some grass.

No luck locating the cemetery. There are several unmarked jcts so u will need to know which direction to take. 105 is the only route to the peak. 2 of the 3 made it up there. They thought it was chilly at the top.

No fall colors to be found. Guess I false advertised 🤔 Toward the end of the downhill, when we were in the shadows, I could feel a slight chill in the air. Jeep read 50 degrees as we departed.

The road in is fairly tame but there is no sign of this hike. Nor a sign of a person all day. Fine by me! Found this 1 from a book.

The 1st mile is rocky with a 600 ft EG. I initially tried left at the jct but then decided to return & go right. Bingo! Constant beautiful views b4 treading further back. Most animal prints I have ever seen b4.

The trail is clearly overgrown in spots but didn't deter me. My time suffered as I was compelled to take many pics & vids. Ate near the water b4 turning around. Starting temp 75, 55 at finish. ☺

On the road out there I was delayed bout 5 minutes cuz cows were in the road. 🐂 Quickly after this the path turned rough. I located the city creek TH without incident. However, I was unable locate the trail. 🤔

Saw a sign for another TH further down this remote section. Soon enough the road ended. Surprisingly, there were a couple other vehicles parked there. This is an old 🚙 road which has been designated a wilderness area.

Being that it was not designed for hiking, there are no switchbacks. 😒 Saw no-one during the hike. The track eventually links up with 2 other trails. Soon after, it dead ends at a ranch. Saw more cows and what I believe to be a javelina running away from me. Located the original trail on way out. 😋

Gained enough confidence since the medical dilemma to post an outing to meetup. My 3rd & possible final Flagstaff trip this season. Forest road in good shape.

Saw mtn bikers during the early phase of this outing, then very few people. 🙂 Inadvertently followed a side trail till we came upon a burnt out area. Oops

Got back on track & climbed to the peak. Tower closed due to Covid. Then went to a 2nd communication spot. A bit of unexpected AEG on the way back had me fatiguing some. High of 75. 😊 My 1st peak since February.

An untraditional TH as I started this outing from 🐃 park. Rain, thunder & storm clouds upon my arrival. 😧 Best to wear my new boots or expect to slip.

Walk to the back of the park and jump on the azt. Didnt realize Oldham eventually turns into a dirt rd with bicyclists. Quickly looked for a way out. Found brookbank but decided to cross back to rocky ridge.

Stopped shy of the road. Turned around & quickly bailed from another road. This caused me to backtrack some but oh well. Located a cave but didnt have time to climb up there. Returned to a beautiful sunset in the park. Amazingly enough, no sign of a storm thru the entire hike. 🙂

Traffic jam from anthem-Black Canyon City. 😧 Caused for a late start. Saw 1 person finishing as I was starting, that's it. 🙂 Couple other unmarked trails intersect early on.

Spotted the old trail which has been covered up near #9415A. The climb then begins to intensify, allowing for greater views. Past the gate it turns to a 2 track. Explored trail 48 a bit & it appears to have much potential.

On the way back I tried a side trail which led to a nearby road. Decided to briefly bushwack back to the trail. By the time I returned the parking lot was empty. Then off to Wildflower just as they were bout to close. 🍴

On this weekend the temps were cool enough I was able to head N of Payson to explore this trail. There is no sign visible from the freeway for this spot nor is there a TH.

For the 1st mile and a half u will hear road noise but it is still scenic. Plus this is but a small portion of the hike. Soon enough u will be away from it all. This hike allows a strong opportunity for wildlife sightings.

Thrilled to say I saw just 3 other hikers, 18 deer, a large 🐍 + more. Hidden gem.

Finally able to take on a hike which warrants a drive up N. Route 66 turns into US 89N. Route 556 is rough and not suitable for cars. So happy to be up in the pines and greenery again.

A few bikers out here but that is about it. Followed this route to the weatherford TH. Explored Schultz tank + other spin off trails out there before heading back. I took a diff route back & followed a road toward the starting point.

I then decided to add a lil extra by following the trail toward Heart. Finished with the sun hitting the pines at a beautiful angle as it drops.

Hello again. Ive been absent due to serious medical conditions. Due to freakishly pleasant weather, I was able to hike in PHX during July! Trying to get back in the saddle again, this outing sounded reasonable. But of course, I botched it.

Started on the LV Yates trail. I passed the 1st jct & turned right on a thin side trail. I then started realizing I was hiking on a bike trail. It ended up connecting to #100 which I was on briefly. I wound around some houses, up a peak and then hit a dead end below near the houses.

I ended up taking #8 back. I entered the parking lot from the opposite side. I then realized I was sposed to start from that side. Oops. I then took that initial trail I started on further up to add to the EG till the skies started storming.

BTW- a biker crashed just after we crossed paths. His face was covered in blood and he dislocated his shoulder. A lady then rode up. She was able to waive down his friend for help.

Had been here 1x previously but went further back this time. Took the more strenuous option at the beginning. Continued out to the next jct. Turned off to take a couple pics at the boulders.

As we began to proceed past where I had previously been, someone rolled through pronouncing this to be a biker trail b4 nearly bumping me. We took the trail that veered left, the opposite of them. There are cairns out here so yes, it is for hikers too.

This area is a bit charred but not as severely as I feared. Not a long drive but does provide some heat relief. 🤗
