Joined 9:30 am Meetup. Woah, lots of vehicles in this large parking area. Fortunately, not one of the trails I was on had many peeps.

Mini Apache Wash Loop with group. Then several of us broke off onto Espalande Trail. At the 3 mile point they turned back. I continued on as I always do.

Crossed a flooded spot to reach Cliff Walk Trail. Then jumped onto a connector to Badger Brawl Trail. Next, added a couple short trails to reach distance goal.

Plz note, Paseo and it's connectors are sidewalks + Sonoran Foothills is all thru a neighborhood.

Led a Meetup but the stats scared away most of the participants. Parked further than ever from packed Gateway TH. Saguaro and Gateway trails brimming with people. Bell Pass is challenging enough to ward off most of them.

After turning on Prospector there was virtually noone else. Then came that damn Thompson Peak rd. 😱 Oh yeah, that's why virtually everone backed out. 😛 When finally back to TH, I took another trail back to my vehicle. No joke!

Joined an educational Meetup. Going over geology of the Marcus Landslide area and surrounding mountains. Slow, measured approach for first 2 miles. I then veered off on my own and picked up the pace.

I planned a loop in advance. The hike out was a bit on the easy side. When I began the loop back, I found this trail to be difficult to distinguish from the wash. Plus the terrain bogged me down.

As I became frustrated, I found a jct. Upon checking, I realized this was a way out without going a whole lot out of my way. Happily diverted from my plan. Loop was more enjoyable from that point. Saw mtn bikers here and there but hardly any hikers.

Some days are better than others for me. On Sunday I felt listless. So a Monday Meetup for me. Met earlier than I'm used to, 8 am at the TH. Felt weak & uncertain early on.

Managed to hit my stride and decided to stay with my plan to go much further. So I said bon voyage from the overlook to push forward.
On parts of Quartz, expensive homes are right beside you. 😒 Beyond what is included in the original write up.

"Paradise" proved to have the same issue. Eventually you will get past them and views will open up. When I reached the loop and saw the people, I knew it was time to turn around. Another extension plus an added loop b4 calling it a day. Reset button achieved. 😌

PS I tracked this with my old phone & updated the date & time early in the hike. This caused RS to show it took me a week at .08 mph!

Been struggling with adversity but have put up a stronger AEG with each outing so far through 2023. Joined a large Meetup group that hiked to the saddle. Then continued much further with one person.

Had never seen the needle close up like this before. Was very interesting to listen to backpacker's stories. This outing took all day. There is some route finding involved. My cohort has been with me on many of these recent outings. She started struggling some toward the end. Best be ready if you are going to attempt this one.

Mapped out an adventure which went above and beyond what the avg. hiker would set out for. The person I went with wants to hike Flat iron. I loved the views from the previous outing.

So we scrambled up 136th st., around others for 2/3rd of a mile on Sunrise, then took Andrew Kinsley into Fountain Hills. Next, we reached Adero Canyon TH and from there Overlook to the end of Ridgeline. 7 miles each way with a lil bit of everything.

Note: route looks slightly odd and the stats aren't exact cuz battery died toward end of outing.

Worked a 6th day in a row on Sunday for OT. This derailed my hiking plans for yesterday. No worries, found another Meetup for today with an 11 am start time. 😁

Stayed with group till they turned around part way through loop. I finished the loop plus added a 2nd one. I was also able to reach the top using the Western Loop which is ranked as extremely difficult.

Phenomenal views, a low number of fellow trekkers and a decent degree of challenge. Just the right # of peeps for me but it could be a diff scene on a weekend.

With the recent rain in the Supes, decided to post Massacre Falls+ to Meetup. People came out for this 1. Trying to keep group together as they wish to proceed at varying speeds.

Were pleased to find a small waterfall flowing at the end of this trail. Most then bolted upon arriving back to the TH. One person proceeded with me for the second phase. Thrilled to show the beauty of the Supes to others.

Researched to figure out what part of town I could hike in without getting drenched. White Tanks looked to be the answer + a strong chance of seeing the waterfall. Mmmm, no. I would suggest trying on Tuesday.

We then did the "long" loop. After we pondered where to go next. We decided on mule deer trail. That was easy. Let's add South trail. On the way back, why not tack on Bajada trail. All of which were rather easy. Not a drop of rain fell on us.

Joined a meetup which showed 7 going. Where did the extra 20 come from? The opposite of the expected. Less than an hour to get there but knew I would have to extend this one out.

Coyote canyon was a unique setting. A lil over 4 miles into a proposed 7 miler, I bolted from the group. Didn't wish to repeat a couple of recent trails. This allowed me to explore a rarely used area.

I then took cowpoke trail back and formed a double loop. Some pretty scenery + a crested saguaro fairly early during this outing. Till next time...

Attempted this outing while recovering from horrific medical issues late July 2021. Started from the wrong side of lot and didnt even resemble the route.

Returned Jan. of 22 as a plan C. Started correctly this time but got off track w/o route. Well, with limited time b4 meeting up with fam, was eyeing the same route I drove to a year ago. This time I spotted both it and Dreamy Draw Park are still closed a year later online. Really?

Finally was able to successfully follow this route. From easy to challenging and with 2 small peaks, this trek winds through varied terrains. Solid outing gave the impression I had hiked further.

Joined a meetup and wasn't exactly sure where we were going. Knew to meet at Gateway TH. What a difference! Going on a Tues instead of a Sun= a tiny fraction of the people. 😀

The group turned around at TT9. I didn't know what that was. Upon getting there, I decided to continue by myself to Tom's Thumb. I then created a loop by taking Desert Park back. Can't say I'd recommend that trail tho.

Had previously hiked to the flat iron lookout 2X before. Had been nearly 3 years since the last outing. This time I finally went up Peak 5024.

More people than I'm used to but they were friendly. 2 hikers decided to join us along the way. Hopped along on the way up brimming with confidence. Slow going on the way down. Lots of fun on the way up.

Had been to this park once previously in 2019. That was a Meetup outing where I continued out beyond anyone else. Upped the ante further with this trip.

Grand tour across much of the park, up several peaks. We turned around a bit shy of the 4th peak due to light concerns. Encountered a couple delays in getting started. May return for a diff outing to finish Javalina Peak.

Amazingly, everyone showed up for this Meetup. All capable + friendly. Prevailing opinion was they were fatigued but the outing wasn't anything too crazy. Bell pass & Dixie Mine were the only trails we saw people. Much needed escape from sorrow.

Been sick the last 2 days & still recovering. However, these trails are fairly flat and I surprised myself by keeping a decent pace through this.

Saw many mtn bikers but no hikers. Temps were perf. More of a laid back outing than many of the others.

Hiked up with a very fit female. We made it to the trail end in just 2 hours. From there it slowed to a snail's pace. The track went straight through horribly thick brush. I went around to avoid some but also added distance.

The brush was constantly untieing my boots. Never had this happen before. There are some views along this portion. No registry cuz point 6506 is still not the summit! That would be a lengthy, intense adventure. Some day...

Devised a loop off the map. Low & behold, the night before, I found Tibber had posted the same route 9 years ago. Dld it & away I went. Believe it is actually FR935 to the TH.

The old Heart trail was the highlight of the day. Sunset is more of a ridgeline climb. Then finally a short road to the peak. The elev. gained over 6 miles is quickly dumped down lookout. Fat mans is interesting. Beautiful temps & fall colors.

Dont follow my track as I got lost. Luckily it was on the way back so I still made it to the summit. Cairns were helpful on the way up but contributed to me getting lost on the way back. Finished later than anticipated. Dont underestimate this bad boy.
