Took us 3 hours to reach the TH from the Meetup spot. Much of this outing is fairly chill. Incline increases leading to the saddle. Unfortunately this is in an obvious burn scar.

Further in I was told it was greener and prettier on a previous outing. For reasonable expectations, not much left of the ancient ranch. Also, off season the orchard doesn't look like much of anything.

The last mile+ packs some AEG punch before reaching the TH. However, that is not the end of the outing. You still have to traverse that road, which is far more challenging than the hike.

Out of bed at 3:30, meet 1st person at 5, two more by 6, start hiking before 7 & still end up in the darkness?! Chill at Fremont Saddle, got off trail a bit during Robber's Roost section.

4 miles in, reached Carney jct with Ridgeline. Starts chill from there but further in grows viscous. This is where our group begun to space out. One guy plowed ahead unphased. I huffed and puffed forward. 😮‍💨 Another guy voluntarily hung back with one who was beginning to struggle some.

When we chose to stay higher than we needed, scrambling across the top, one in our group got freaked out. We started realizing time was slipping away. Next we witnessed a dramatic helicopter rescue right next to us.

Just as it seems to start taming, another scramble would begin. We now had to drop down Flat Iron quicker than the sun. Why are a couple other groups still ascending?? To Siphon Draw just before darkness

Another distressed individual who is literally shaking and out of water. Now one in our group has had enough with this outing. My headlamp breaks. WTF? This is an amazing outing but PLZ know what you're getting into.

Hmmm, where do I begin? Let's cut straight to it. We kept a strong pace up Quartz Peak knowing things would slow down substantially from that point. Oh yes they did. 2 hours to Quartz then chilled up there some. Another group was bout to reach the peak as we were leaving it. They flew a drone around for some great views. Then sent it over above us. Where the hell are these guys going?

The next mile consisted of ups, downs, vegetation, scrambling, etc. In a rare instance, my friends I was with even grumbled a bit. Is this really worth it? Sure. Registry placed there just 2 years ago nowhere to be found. 😔

From the top we decided on what would prove to be a mistake. We took the wash back. 🫨 I strongly recommend returning the way you came. We spent more time descending to the TH over the next 3 miles than it took to reach the true summit. Oops. Barely finished before full darkness.

This was truly a last second idea. Original idea came unraveled the night before. Met for carpool at 8:30. Straightforward for a while. Then leave trail for open country. Finding the ruins was easier than expected.

The climb back down was the most difficult portion. We took two spills each on the way down. We then left the route to check out something we'd spotted from above. Inspected the wreck before carrying on.

We meandered off a bit again to check out the spring. Water was flowing. Continued to close out the loop. As we got closer to the start, we began to see participants in the 50 mile run again. Interesting outing of moderate difficulty.

Had gone down this route back in 2021 till we hit the road block. A recent hike confirmed the road had finally reopened. At Long last, could return for rest of drive. Long curvy road. Stays paved longer than I would logically expect.

At the rest stop area is a warning bout the surface. From here is a no car zone. Sign says 4x4 or ATV, although I didn't use it. Route does mellow out again and returns to pavement at Apache Lake.

Views, scenery and road that dates back to the early 1900s. This get away was blocked off for years. Then some fool in a semi got stuck on a bridge. Shutting it till the day before we went out there. 😌

2nd week in a row where the lot was full. Then pull offs were mostly full as well. Said hello to others at TH before backtracking. This is a beautiful loop.

Second Water is fairly straight forward and flat doing this clockwise. Gotta keep the eyes peeled to follow the ever changing trail through this section of Boulder Canyon.

Dutchman is where the group split off. 3 shot out at warp speed. 4 of us kept a strong stride. Three took a more chill pace back. Avg bout 100 ft gain per mile. As long as you do your homework, can't go wrong when exploring the Supes.

Plz note: parking lot full again. Was supposed to meet one more hiker on trail but there was a miscommunication and went wrong way. Pry 15 miles and a bit less AEG without any of that.

Also, apparently these trails have been cleaned up since original write up and some of these prior triplogs. RF and catclaw not much of an issue. On a Supes streak and not done yet!

Met 3 others for carpool @7:30. Arrived to line in order to enter TH. Sitting in a line that only moves as others give up. Nah, well just pay the $10. That did add nearly 1.5 miles RT.

Finally on actual trail. Reached pools and heiroglyphics soon enough. Chilled out & took some pics. Bye to the others, let the true adventure begin. No official trails from here but there is a trail through most of it.

Surprised to see others up there. Decided not to place the registry I had brought. Would fill up too quickly. Despite that, this is a tough hike. Had been on my list for years. Bout time!

A friend wanting to do this outing. He now said he wants to drive the Apache Trail. I saw multiple days of rain in the forecast. I'm not huge on repeats but this one is very much worth it. Let's go!

He somehow talked me into meeting at 6. 🥴 Woke at 4:30 and two others agreed to our wacky plan. Dark for most of the drive during winter solstice week. 1st time through Fish Creek Hill. 🚙

TH at 8. Not much later than when I camped last time. Chilly at start but once sun came out, we shed the jackets. Was ready for the RF this time + this group kept me pushing the pace. Had to stop a fair amount to take pics of this beauty.

Waterfall flowing but not to same level as previously. Got back to trail in just 45 mins. Up and up. 😓 Tagged a bonus peak. Scouted a future off trail peak. Finished an hour quicker than expected. 💪

3 met from Meetup for this adventurous outing. Joined a Meetup to tackle this bad boy in early 2020. One guy fell forward during a steep descent directly on his head. Another lady was so freaked out she was on the ground screaming 😱. Was hoping wouldn't be as dramatic this time around. 🙃

Was up a bit last the night before watching Jake Paul get KO'd. 🥊 Takes me 50 minutes to reach this TH. Worth it. Approach is fairly straight forward. Then we figure out a path. Stopped seeing cairns so just scrambled up.

Managed to find the trail but staying on it isn't easy. Two diff peaks before Wind "Cave". Then started seeing people. Over to Wind Cave TH. Finally Pass MTN loop back. Thankfully no falling or screaming. 😃

Added this to my wish list 4 years ago. Soon after, led an outing to the Lookout from Gateway as an out n back. A year ago I had done Lookout+ from Tom's Thumb. This time started from Tom's Thumb and then did lollipop loop.

Forgot how Tom's Thumb trail starts steep. Mostly downhill and saw virtually no one after Lookout turnoff. Then came Windgate where we started working harder again. Inspiration Point and Windgate Pass along the route.

Next we dropped down to another jct. Climbing back out East End at this point is challenging. Then we finally saw other people again as we hiked Tom's Thumb back to our vehicles. Friday is a refreshing change from Saturday crowds. 😌

Bruh! 😳 This hike is for noone. 😁 For real, study the topo in advance, use two diff apps and check rock stability before pulling up. Group of 15, I'm the only 1 that even attempted.

5 miles before leaving the trail. 1.5 miles to summit took me bout 2.5 hours. Down traditional route, it is easy to get off track. Albeit a whole hell of a lot more reasonable than descending the back side!

This was on my want list for exactly 1 year. That's rather quick turnaround or me.😛 The original trekker who created this route, you are exceedingly brave, my friend. Happy holidays y'all. 🌲🎁🤶

4 years ago I stumbled upon this TH while showing the area to someone else. I knew I needed to return that this would be a natural hiking spot for me. Welp, took longer than I expected to hike here.

I had proposed a spot in the Estrellas, my friend suggested this TH and for me to create a route. Hung around on HAZ some and found many options. Went with this one since neither of us had hiked here and were unsure of the terrain.

catclaw and RF didn't prove to be much of a factor. That said, long pants still advised. We took our time yet finished the route in under 7 hours. Hung at the peak for a while to take it all in. Keep in mind, you'll need to add 6.5 miles to all of the HAZ pages from here.

Consistently difficult to get peeps out to this spot. I'm still a fan. With many options, views and challenge. Tortuga was the only trail I hadn't followed out. Ends at a fence where more building is immenint.

Then up Javalina Peak which felt easier than it did 2 years ago. Wasn't going to reach stated numbers so added on Crest Summit. Next took loop around instead of same path back. Finally over bridge to opposite side of parking lot.

Posted a Meetup for a potentially rainy day. Sign ups were slow till the forecast became favorable. Hit the 10 max out. Half actually showed. Nothing shocking there. 🤷‍♂️

Hike got off to a very rocky start as two participants started screaming at each other. SMH So we took National Trail-Bajada-Alta. Alta is where it gets steeper with switchbacks.

We then took a social trail to a side viewpoint. Next was the peak. Nice lil bonus challenge. After that, it was mostly chill. A couple of those who came out were complaining it was a bit hot. This was my return to PHX.

A friend said it's absurd that I'm a PHX native & don't know the canyon 1st hand. Phantom Ranch reopened one week ago. This coming weekend its going to snow up there. The time to go is now!

4 of us got up there Friday night. A series of negative factors kept me awake virtually all night. Great way to enter the longest hike of my life. 🤷‍♂️ Start getting ready 4:30 am, in car at 6 and on shuttle at 6:30.

Wow, my 1st glimpse at the canyon. Take pics before starting. Scurry on down before chilling at Tipoff. Run into the other member from our group. He has already made it to Phantom and back!!

When we make it to Phantom, we hang for an hour. We've gone from cold in the pines to the desert floor. Climb back up to Tipoff is challenging and required multiple breaks. Tonto an easy connector + treated us to some Fall colors.

Hang at Havasupai Gardens for another 40 mins. My 1st time here, no rush. What's all the babbling about? This isn't difficult. Oh, that final climb out. 😮‍💨 Switchbacks, steps and double your AEG within the last few miles.

Dark outside and exhausted by the end. Barely catch the the final shuttle out. I'd do it all again. The Ridgeline is still more extreme. Will always remember this day.

One drops out morning of, meet other in Tempe. Both of us were a bit late for the 6:45 time. 🤓 Finding the TH wasn't difficult. The drive in is pretty and not as far as some.

Started hike before 9. RF is a definite factor in the beginning. Then the way forward becomes clear. Talked with some scouters early on. No overly difficult sections. Continuous but doable gain throughout.

After a couple tries, found the correct towers which is the the HP. Paused momentarily for friend early on the way down and spoke with the only other hiker we would see out here. Ended up descending with him. Many other options in this area. Will return. Although I will admit the Fall colors weren't quite what I was hoping.

Have gone up Old Baldy twice previously. Have also taken Baldy trail and then to Ian. Went diff this time. Super Trail to peak. This allows for new sights, enhanced views and a steadier gain.

Neither of the others had been here before so they voted to take Baldy back. Makes sense, ok. Also enabled us to finish the hike at 5 pm. Ahh, switchbacks easier on way down. 😊

So, Old Baldy=11 miles, loop is 14 and Super as an out n back would be closer to 17. Did this in t-shirt and shorts but realize not all would agree this time of year. Direct sun on summit so not at all cold. ❤️ this area.

Ahh, had been on immediate to do list for many years. Longer than any others. Slim season and finding others willing has gotten in the way. Met in Scottsdale at 7:30. These drives are getting shorter.

Pass marked TH for lil pull out a bit further N. Near hwy early in the hike. Then starts getting steeper and away from road noise. Had considered driving up to do in rev. Nope, my 4X4 would never have made it. So what is this Tacoma doing out here?? Oh, he's already damaged it. We warned him further repairs coming if he continues.

Only saw one other pair of hikers who were training for the canyon. Judging by all the beer cans at the TH, apparently hiking is not at the top of the list here. Felt a bit easier than the stats would indicate. Temps were perf. 😌
