Had been planning this one for a lil bit now. Forecast and timing were finally on point. It's a trek to this TH. Bear Jaw a bit longer and tougher than I had remembered. We caught sight of the peaks the majority of the way through the trail. Ahh hell no, I'm already tired. 🥴

Chilled at the jct before beginning the steep off trail slog. Plenty of downed trees to navigate. Then traverse through a boulder field. As we approached the summit, it felt like my lungs had been handcuffed. Half breaths through a difficult section causes for many mini breaks. 1 yelled down, it's right up here. We know, this is the best we can do. 😮‍💨

Truly unique views of the San Franciscos from up here. Created a new registry. Why are these things disappearing?! The descent was far easier and RF wasn't bad. Judge by EG, not mph, or stats will look depressing. 🫵

Reach TH @ 7 am. A minor miracle for me. 😛 Up East which wasn't as difficult as I remembered from 9-8-2019. Chill at boundary with guy doing loop rev of us. Going down W was mostly easy. Terrain does limit how fast one can move most of the way.

Chill at water next to Crossover Trail. After already hiking 13 miles, that first mile was brutal. Next couple were much easier. Finished an hour and a half sooner than expected. Same time it took me to do E to boundary and back 6 years ago. 😊

Fabulous and beautiful hike. My 3rd time here. Chilled at the water on the way back. With a late start, we decided not to go any further. Bigger plans for tomorrow...

Was going to take this week off. A friend talked me into coming out. Came up with a plan but completely missed the turn. Eyed a turnoff to get back there but saw it wasn't much of a road. Oh, we can start a separate hike from here. Game on.

Yes Copper Trail is steep with little shade. Didn't plan on this so was dressed in all black. 🫤 Breeze did help. Then went up to Mt Francis. Took two different shortcuts. Then added a quick off trail peak.

Knock out an outing with decent numbers + a rd trip. Heading home early this time. Can still get out tonight. 🥊

Now this is an adventure. Start from over 9100 ft with amazing views. Drop down a steep, rocky trail. Then turn right on Sutherland with more uphill. Turn right at the next jct onto Canada Del Oro. Stay left onto the Short Cut Trail which isn't mapped on here.

Your have now dropped back down to 7200 ft. Turn L on the steep & no longer maintained Samaniego Ridge Trail. Watch for ribbons and cairns or you'll quickly be off trail. Here is where our time begun to slow down immensely.

Finally ups and downs on Canada Del Oro again to 8k. At this point we turned onto what once was a trail. Our mph is now miniscule. Downed trees, occasional trail and major RF. After a mile we realized we best turn around at 7400 ft. 💧

Well, this was supposed to be much more. 11 people became six and down to 2 of us by day 2. Both sleep deprived for days, finally met some limitations. We were both iffy going in and had to call it off early. Gonna have to take the blame for this one. 🥴

Meetup showed 10 going. Only 5 showed up. 🙄 Parking area near road block. Bout one mile in on dirt roads. Hike next 3 miles of dirt road with 900 ft gain. Some great views.

Locket Meadow burn area smaller than expected. 😌 Inner Basin with less people. At a sign pointing to continue on Inner Basin we turned right. Now it gets hella steep. Ends at spring which is a pretty area.

Kept strong pace back. Would surely have taken longer if others had shown up. Next up AZT...

Basically a last minute plan with two of the more daring hikers I know. A lengthy loop + off trail peak. One of the few accessible dirt roads in Flag rn. Blocked off immediately after TH.

7 am meet, hiking by 10. Our norm 😝 Connector trail to loop. Little Elden at start and end. Old Heart is clearly disappearing. 😔 You will need to be determined to stay on it.

The off trail isn't that difficult. Although RF clearly slows it down. Can go around the barriers till the very end. Final scramble to old Sierra Club registry. We ended up leaving the track on the way down for a more direct path down. Shed a bit of blood along the way.

Lil Bear seemed like it took forever to finish on the way back. Will look to continue to climb higher from here. ☝️

Planned on an off trail peak. Then I got sick and she became injured. Cancel that. On Friday I reached out to a few friends to see if anyone was down for a more chill outing. A couple of them bit. Happy to be able to get out.

However, the road was blocked off to get to Secret Trail. One of them quickly suggested Kachina. I then mentioned let's use an alternative starting point. Next that road was closed. One of them commented as we passed a busy pull off. I then advised to turn around and start from there.

This still provided us some extra oomph at the start. We connected up to Kachina at the wilderness sign. Ahh, this place is magical. Decided to turn around where the burn zone begins, bout 3/4 a mile from the jct. Took a diff side trail back down that was easier to follow and without the deadfall.

The plan was to head to Williams for a peak bagging expedition. Night before I realized the lengthiest of the trails was closed. Ok, last minute texting amongst the 3 of us for a new plan. Firecrackers were popping off nonstop till nearly 10:30.

11 miles off pavement each way. You drive directly past the only trail anyone would normally use out here. Start gaining elev from the get go. Views throughout are the best I've experienced lately. This is the toughest of the 3 approaches.

Bout half way in, trail disappears for a lil while. Easier to follow in than out. This is the one spot we ran into the only set of 2 hikers we would see out there. The final mile packs a 1k gain. The altitude was really getting to my friends.

After the route finding section, cruised back to the TH quickly. I can finally say I've hiked all 3 approaches and this is the winner IMO.

Meet in FH @ 7 am. I seem to be adjusting to these earlier starts. Yet still not hiking till after 10. 😛 This was an early post to HAZ. grasshopper said congrats on almost completing the trail. Had no idea what he was talking about.

100% completed now and should be recorded successfully under the trail this time. Plus completed an hour & 15 mins quicker. Although the 1st time we were admiring Fall colors. Rec'd positive feedback from others who joined. Best views are from the road, not the trail.

Meet 2 in PHX @ 7 am. Couple side roads closed so stayed on pavement longer. Start hike just after 10. Starts in beautiful ferns and aspens although it does drop down below those early in the outing. Yet still a pretty stroll through the forest.

The final mile was on a forest road. Decided to turn around at 1st jct. The stroll then turns into a hike. Time to gain back the lost 1,100 ft in elev. Views of Humphreys throughout.

We were all fatigued toward the end. Back to Flag to eat. Return to carpool before dark thx to the Summer solstice weekend. After 5 years, think I've gone as far as I wish with this section. 🥸

Had to search for a trail that was cool enough. High of 80 @ 8k ft Ok, I can handle that. Meet in PHX at 7 am. Start 10 am.

Took some side routes to make this different. Then looped around and up peak. Also extended it to include two more sets of towers. Was taking roads back but then found connecting trail to be decommissioned. Made our own back up to Sunset.

Back to carpool at 9:30. Bed at 11, up at 5 for work. All worth it.

Met in PHX @730. Showed 8 going day before. Ended up squeezing 5 of us into 1 vehicle to Rocky Ridge TH. Took on a lengthy loop for this outing. Started with MTN bikers on Schultz Creek.

Took a break at Sunset TH. Sunset was the highest + steepest trail of the day. Added on a hill for a viewpoint. Then switched to Brookbank. Some fire devastation here.

Part of Brookbank has been decommissioned. This led to downed trees etc. Eventually connected up with Rocky Ridge. That trail closed out the loop. Lengthiest hike I'd gone on for a couple months. Old school Sizzler afterward.

Wow, 12 of us out from Meetup and had a wait list. Even rec'd positive feedback that I don't make peeps start hella early. Kept vehicles down to 3. Not sure why, but road in is now all paved.

Hopped trails some to keep it interesting. Carr Lake-Aspen-General Crook. This is where it turns to a single track. Next descended down the Drew. Dropped from 7600-6800 in a mile.

Posed for some pics at jct before climbing back up. Pushed myself going back up. Passed up by 1, another kept my pace. The rest fell aways behind. Waited for them at jct. No other hikers out here. Looped back to starting point. All of us to restraunt in Payson.

Created a fabulous lasso loop. Based off an outing from a year ago but altered a bit to make more Meetup friendly.Took a couple wrong turns on the way up. Turned into 20 miles off pavement over 2 hours.

Space for 1 vehicle to park sideways at TH. Almost immediately spotted cows. Instant beauty on trail. Missed turn off at jct which was behind us. Started heading down wrong way. I'm on a roll now. 😄

Headed along overgrown section of 4 Peaks to loop. Then down to main TH. Up Browns to saddle. This is where we would come in contact with the only other person on these trails. Across lightly used Amethyst and then back up Pigeon Spring.

Been sidelined. Time to post an outing shorter than normal but to move forward again. Drew strong response. 10 of us -2 cuz road too rough? Rolled up on rollover wreck on I17 as paramedics were. Able to get moving again quickly. 😌

Views from peak alright but not the greatest. Glad to see Moby now on here. Can't say I see much reason to add .5 mile road to Mt Francis. Although no way to record another peak to stats. ⛰️

Funny thing is, group chose to go to same restaurant afterward that was chosen by a diff group 1 year ago.

Was looking to get out to Sedona on Saturday. Realized my foot may not be up to it.😞 Woah, today's temps allowed me a trial after work

Had never been to Deem Hills. For me, development all around is a bit much. Didn't see many people, that was a plus. Trail is rocky enough to give my foot a real test. I'll consider this a yellow light for me. Meh

So a friend recommended this route from an inferior trails page. Turns out it's the same as this loop+forming a bit of a stick by starting from Woodbury Trailhead. HC vehicle obviously needed but not 4X4.

This is an area and trails none of us had been to previously. Was excited to do some exploring. Did not disappoint. Will return to this area next season for sure! Hiking road section is steep and fatiguing.

Lots of this outing is fairly chill. We eventually found the ruins. Apparently they used to be more dramatic till some careless buffoon caused major damage. Furthermore, I ended up needing a double wrapped bag to collect all the discarded beer cans & bottles. Pack it in, pack it out people!

After the ruins, the trail got a bit tougher before mellowing out again. Then climbed to the final HP. Chilled there some before the steep, rocky descent with catclaw to the sides of you. Damaged my weak ankle slightly through there. Final climb back to TH was wearing a couple of us down.
