We did this loop as part of an overnight backpack trip, stopping after 15.5 miles at LaBarge Spring to camp for the night and then completing the loop to Peralta trailhead by taking Lost Dutchman trail to Bluff Springs trail. That upper part of Red Tanks is a rough stretch of trail and we all got bloodied by catclaw, but were rewarded with some great scenery. There was very little water out on the trail, but we did find some puddles to filter out of maybe a mile before reaching the Hoolie Bacon trail intersection. LaBarge Spring was a welcome sight, and easily accommodated 8 hammock campers. You can always count on a reliable water source there. We had on and off sprinkles overnight and light rain for most of the hike out. All part of another fantastic Supes adventure. It sure is great to have summer behind us.

Did this loop in reverse order as a 24hr overnight backpack adventure. We timed it perfectly in between rain storms blowing through. It was great to get back out in the Western Supes. The spring was flowing nicely as expected. Those sections of Red Tanks and Whiskey Springs trails have not developed much catsclaw since last year when a number of us teamed up to do some eradicating. What a pleasure to hike these trails compared to a few years back.

What a fun hike! The weather was perfect. We had a group of 7 that got on the trail around 8:00AM. There was no shortage of interesting scrambles on this route. A fun rappel towards the end of Minnow Canyon with an overhang about midway down. We did spot one puddle of scummy water going down Minnow if you had a filter and were desperate, and ample water down at Fish Creek. Thanks to Nonot for the gps route. This trip really motivated me to get out and explore more of the lower sections of Fish Canyon. Such a beautiful place.

Did this as an overnight backpack in the clockwise direction, grabbing Kennedy Peak on the first day. The climb was just as relentless as I remembered it. The weather was fantastic, but unfortunately not much fall foliage this time. I guess summertime has stretched out this year. We did see 3-4 turkeys wandering around Powers Cabin - they were so tame we could almost walk right up to them. I was amazed at how much Powers spring was flowing, maybe 5 gal/min. There was actually a stream to filter out of. Last time it was more like a mucky pool right at the source. I forgot how pretty the country is out there, and so much variation. For us the new post hike go-to Mexican restaurant in Globe is El Ranchito.

Did this as a day hike, going down Meadow Canyon to WCC and exiting just past the White Box. Got a fairly late start at around 11:00AM. We did have to wade through one chest deep puddle on the way down, just before the first 80' rappel. We ended up doing 3 rappels, and probably should have rappelled down that last 20' drop just below the chute like Todd recommended, but we ended up down climbing it. WCC and hanging gardens was absolutely gorgeous and we had a very pleasant lunch stop there. I ended up doing 5 swims total, but others in our group negotiated around at least a couple of them. The water was still a bit chilly. Nobody had wetsuits, and a couple of people in our group of 4 were at risk of hypothermia after the white box swim. A steady breeze down there robbed warmth fairly quickly. The climb out effort and hitting the sun again warmed things up very quickly. The exit trail is well marked with a cairn, and there was even some kind of hamster cage looking contraption hanging there. The climb out is indeed steep and relentless. It was a great trip and we all had a blast. You get a little bit of everything on this, and it definitely personifies the AZ wilderness experience. Next time we want to do an overnighter and spend more time camping out at the hanging gardens.

We were in the backpacking group that coordinated a shuttle with the single day hikers. We started at Peralta trailhead at first light around 7:00AM. We got to Randolph Spring around 11:00AM, and stopped for lunch. I agree with other posters that the catsclaw through Angel Basin wasn't as bad as feared. The section of Frog Tanks between Angel Basin and Fish Creek really slowed us up. We finally gave up trying to find the trails and just slogged it out in the creek bed. Ended up busting one of my hiking poles and took a good tumble. Lots of good water sources along that stretch. Finally put on the headlamps near the end of the last big climb heading out of the canyon and towards Plow Spring. We got to Reavis Gap at 8:00PM, 13 hours later and set up camp and enjoyed a nice meal and some adult beverages. Got a 6:30AM wakeup call from our HAZ day hiker group passing through and had a good chat before they headed on around 7:00AM. We hit the trail around 9:15AM and got to Tule trailhead at 4:15PM, 7 hours later. We stopped for lunch at the bottom of the canyon that branches off from Pine Canyon, just West of 2 Bar Mountain and enjoyed the spectacular views along 2 Bar Ridge. After our 13 hour hike from Peralta the day before, it just didn't occur to us the day hikers were planning to trail run and get through in 10.5 hours! We stopped in Roosevelt for a burger and beer and got to Peralta trailhead at 7:00PM, to find a group of hikers huddling around in the cold. Boy did I feel bad. All in all, an incredible adventure and I still have a few aches and pains to remind me of what we just did. Thanks to all the day hikers for being such good sports and to Mike and Daren for the great company on the trail.

We did this as an overnight backpack, shuttling up to Waldroup Canyon and exiting at Bell trailhead. What an amazing adventure! Spotted several rattlers along the way. I'm estimating that we had 20 swims from top to bottom. The weather and temp was just about perfect. Didn't see another soul until just before the big swimming hole down at the bottom. There are no easy miles inside that canyon. Beautiful scenery throughout.

We did this as an overnight backpack trip, hiking down to the Verde River from the Towel Creek trailhead and camping out there. We found a nice campsite with fire ring just as you reach the river. A couple of us were hammock campers and were able to find trees to hang from just downstream from the campsite. I estimate it was a couple of miles past the ruins to get to the river, for a total one way distance of 8 miles. Part of the way down we did find a place on towel creek that had a nice pool of clear looking water. There were many cattle tracks and cow pies throughout. In the middle of the night we heard a loud smacking sound against the water, and a while later another one as some critter kept moving around the river. We guessed this must have been a beaver slapping his tail. There were signs of an old beaver dam there. We spoke with a couple of kayakers who were floating down from Camp Verde. Overnight low was around 28 degrees, we had frozen water bottles and ice crystals on our tents in the morning. The ruins were very impressive. Overall a very fun and interesting trip. I will definitely do this one again.

Instead of an out and back hike, I hiked out on Bluff Springs trail from Peralta trailhead, and then continued along the Dutchman's trail to connect with Peralta trail and get back to my starting point. I'm guessing this extended it out to around 17 miles. What a great hike! Beautiful weather out in the Supes and fabulous scenery throughout, what else do you need? I ran into maybe 3-4 groups of backpackers out there. I stopped at Charlebois Spring and set up my hammock for a nice rest stop, munching on a Probar and enjoying the moment. The spring had plenty of nice clear water in it. Much better than I'm used to finding out there lately. I'm definitely getting out to do this hike again soon. A great higher mileage loop hike option with good scenery and minimal catsclaw to fight. And a reliable water source at the midway point.

Went along on Te-wa's trip. The fall colors were stunning. We captured Kennedy Peak on the way up the first day. Several good, relentless climbs for sure on this loop. There is definitely a significant deviation of the route from the trails listed on TOPO. One person in our group captured a gps route. I will get it posted here. Spring did look a bit marginal, but the water was clear enough if you swept away the surface debris. We filtered through a bandanna and treated with Micropur. There was a huge group of hunters camped at the trailhead when we got there friday night. They all got up around 3:00AM and made a lot of noise. Temps were just about perfect.

We went in from Rogers Trough trailhead for a weekend overnighter. The weather was fantastic. We spotted a few horny toads, a couple of frogs and even a tarantula on the trail. When we got up there, we found a large group of horse campers that were taking up most if not all of the spots on the south end where there was running water. We headed towards the north side to find a campsite. There are still lots of apples left on the trees! Very ripe and delicious now. Mainly in the middle section of the orchard. We found a nice stealthy place to camp a little ways north of where Reavis Gap crosses the creek. The creek was completely dry in that area, but I did find a reasonable puddle just south of the Reavis Gap crossing where we could obtain water from. After we set up camp and starting to relax we heard gun shots going off (presumably from our horse camper neighbors) for a couple of hours in the afternoon. I don't want to brand all horse campers, but sometimes I get annoyed by them. I am also getting worried that Reavis is feeling the strain of over use. A real shame for such a wonderful place.

We did this as a 2 day backpacking trip, hiking along the East Cabin route in the clockwise direction. We started out from Pinchot Cabin, stopped at Dane Cabin for lunch and camped at Barbershop Spring. And a beautiful and easy stroll the next day up Houston Brothers trail back to the Pinchot trailhead. A really pleasant trip all around. The weather was perfect, in spite of the rain forecasts. Water availability was good all the way around. We ran into a few elk just after starting down Barbershop trail. A few coyotes were howling that night near Barbershop Spring. A really nice variety of trail conditions and topology. The canyon passages had us huffing and puffing. We did not see any people at all during most of the loop. Only a lone backpacker towards the beginning of our hike, and a small group of trail runners at Aspen Cabin on the second day. This trip is a keeper. I can't wait to get out and explore more of this area. Special thanks to gpsjoe for the detailed gps tracks for these trails. There are indeed a few places along Barbershop trail where we could have easily gotten off course without them to refer to.

Went along with Te-wa's big group. We hiked up Pumpkin Trail, and then looped back around on Bull Basin. The other posts have pretty much said it all. Great company and great scenery. You really get a feel for how extensive that fire damage was. Some very lush and green, forested places still exist on the top of the mountain. A very large and accommodating campsite near the cabin. It was a real pleasure meeting many of the HAZ crew for the first time.

We did an overnight backpack trip from Rustler Park. Heads up! We found that Anita Spring was not running. There was just a stagnant looking puddle there. We did manage to fill up at Booger Spring and we pressed on to the Monte Vista Peak area, where we camped on the saddle just below the lookout tower. We were able to get water from Bear Spring, which is nearby to this campsite. Overall very nice weather, although the winds were a bit gusty. We did encounter rain late afternoon and overnight. On the return hike we had around 30 seconds of hail. A really fun and memorable hike, very lush and green foliage as well as some killer views 360 degrees down to the desert floor, towards Mexico and New Mexico. You just gotta love those Sky Islands.

I did the weekend overnighter with Mike's hammocking group. A very pretty area, I'd like to come in from the other trailhead some time. We caught the front end of the big storm that rolled through the area. The hills were blanketed in snow maybe a couple hundred feet higher in elevation around us. Plenty of firewood around.

With the warm weather front, it turned out to be great time to come here. Plenty of water running in the creek by the cabin. Stream bed was completely dry where Dogie trail first crosses the creek. We did the return loop via Cassner Mtn. Hiking up Cassner, we did encounter significant snow on the trail in places, with icy patches along steep terrain. Hiking poles highly recommended here. Views on top of Cassner are stunning, but the hike once you get to the top really drags on for the last 5 miles or so. We were thinking a better option might be to shuttle over to the Mooney (?sp) trailhead.

Was hiking with Te-wa's group. Wow, what a memorable hike that was. No doubt, bushwhacking on the trail is an accurate description. The constant rain and clouds covering the local peaks made for a very pretty day out there. Cold and wet makes you want to keep moving!

Two of us did this hike over the weekend, going in on saturday for a 1 night stay. The creek was flowing well along the entire length of the valley. There was one other group camping there. This is my second time hiking in from the North, I again marveled at how pretty this hike is. It starting raining late saturday night, and continued raining for the rest of the trip. No problem for us, we had plenty of rain gear and it made the hike even more scenic and enjoyable. The trail was a little sloppy and muddy in places, but overall not bad. There were not any places that were even close to impassable.

BTW, we originally tried to go in by Reavis gap, but the road to the trailhead was pretty washed out. Just after passing the ranch the road turned into not much more that a sandy riverbed. The road looked very different than the last time we were there last November, only a couple of months ago. Given the rain predictions for the weekend we bailed on that route and drove over to Reavis North instead.

I agree with Shi, this is a great hike. A group of 3 of us did this as a weekend overnighter, hiking out on Reavis Gap trail, and then looping back on Fireline trail, making a stop at CircleStone and then on to Campaign trail and back to the trailhead. Reavis was delightful as usual, there were a number of groups camping out there, but we managed to get a great campsite near water. We found plenty of water where the creek crosses the trail near the Fireline trail junction. Be mindful that there are a number of hunters out there right now during hunting season. We heard several shots ring out during the night, which I guess is a no-no. The weather was very nice, although it did dip below 40 degrees at night, which pushed our gear to it's limit. One camper reported to us the next day they saw some signs of freezing in their water bottle. The forecast was for a nightly low of 47 degrees. This was my first time hiking up Reavis Gap. A lot of climbing for sure, but great views and worth the effort. Fireline trail and CircleStone were great as usual, but I found the return leg on Campaign to be less exciting, mostly following a creek bed with frequent crossings. The drive to the trailhead took 65 minutes from my house in Gold Canyon. The off road part on FR449 was pretty easy. Much easier than coming up to Rogers Trough trailhead. Definitely high clearance is required in places, but only one strech where you even come close to needing a 4WD. There were several places where the creek crosses the road. During rainy season I could see this being a problem.

Did a solo hike in the counter clockwise direction on this beautiful December day. I saw maybe 6 groups of people along the route today, most of which were doing the Dutchman/Bluff Springs loop. I ran into another solo hiker at the Whiskey Springs/Red Tanks trail junction. I did encounter some navigational difficulty just before the Red Tanks/Dutchman trail junction. For some reason trail just vanished into the creek bed and I had to make along the creek bed for a fair distance before re-connecting with the trial. Maybe next time I'll find the right way to go. There was definitely a fair amount of undergrowth to contend with on this hike, I was glad to have on my long hiking pants.
