It had been ~2 years since my last hike in the Goldfields, and I'd had Golden Dome on my list for years but had yet to go up there. Cool April weather made this a great weekend to change that. We started from Willow Trailhead on a clockwise lasso-loop based on Chumley's previous Golden Dome hike, with some adjustments to minimize wash/road walking.

Seeing the colorful Goldfield geology again made me question why I'd stayed away for so long. We made quick work of the early "trail" miles and took a short break at a tunnel with some grinding holes that I'd visited on a previous hike, not realizing when we started that it was along today's route. Then we improvised on the route a little as we started the climb up to Pedestal Arch and beyond, with Golden Dome coming back into view as we gained elevation.

Fun scrambling and some steep, loose side-hilling as we worked our way around and up to the west side of Golden Dome. We looked at the chute that Chumley went up last time but tried a spot just to the right that worked great. Based on some of the previous triplogs, I wasn't sure how climby it would be going up, but it wasn't bad at all, and I never even had to tell my frightened inner child with a fear of heights to shut up and keep going. My shorts were less fortunate--on the first big step on the scramble up, I heard the loud sound of ripping fabric and spent the rest of the day hiking with some "unintended ventilation" that was disappointing but surprisingly refreshing.

We didn't find a register on top, but the views were fantastic with a not-too-hazy day--lots of Superstion and Mazatzal landmarks, Etrellas, Four Peaks, etc. [ youtube video ] We ate lunch on top and checked out the northeast end where Chumley went down last time, but we returned the same way we'd come up, then worked our way over to Peak 3141. The register I placed a few years ago was still there, though the old entry was faded to the point that it was virtually unreadable.

Next stop was Triple Arch, where we saw our first other people of the day, then we headed into Black Glass Canyon. It was drier in there than either of us had ever seen it, and the few pools we saw were stagnant and full of algae. But the dry conditions allowed us to go down through the canyon via a route I'd never taken before.

Some darker clouds gathered as we closed out the loop, but it didn't amount to anything more than virga. We were back at the parking lot just after 2PM, wrapping up a great loop--two peaks, a couple arches, three wildflowers, some caves, not too many people, great weather and scenery, and, surprisingly, zero soiled mattresses...can't complain about a day like that.

An April Saturday in the 70s made a revisit to golden dome a good choice. I mapped out a loop with as much singletrack as possible and with minimal sandy wash slogging. Along the way we visited or at least got a view of a few of the arches that this range has to offer.

There was a surprising amount of cloud cover, and toward the end of the day we thought some of the nearby rain showers might sprinkle over us, but that wasn't to be.

I picked a different route to the summit than last time. Instead of the protected chute, we went straight up from the little saddle just to the west of the chute. Three really big steps (the kind that will rip your pants) and juggy holds made it a fairly easy ascent. We descended the same route. There really are several options for gaining the peak, choosing which one depends on your comfort with scrambling and exposure.

From the summit we headed over to 3141 before dropping down and heading down Black Glass, where we saw our first 3 others on the day (one of which informed us we were "almost there" despite having no idea where we'd been or were going -- this frequent occurrence tends to amuse me). We saw two more hikers near the end which completed the crowd out there today.

Fun to do this one again!

Got the trailhead at 7:15 to find Andy's truck. I was hoping to run into him but no luck. Sounds like he and Jason had a short hike planned that ended up even shorter.

I did a counterclockwise loop heading out on the easternmost Willow Springs Trail and coming back on one of the middle ones. My hiking speed was half of what it was yesterday. The scenery in the Goldfields is phenomenal, but the trails are rocky and have several steep sections.

Saw a desert tortoise early on and then a rattler about midway. I heard the rattle as I walked by it, but it wasn't very loud, kind of stilted. It was hidden pretty well in the grass.

Weather was pretty warm to start due to my late start, but didn't get too bad. Saw one other hiker way ahead of me on the last mile, but it wasn't Andy or Jason. Very nice to hike in the Goldfields, even with the brutal trails.

Bruce wanted to see the most obscure arch in the Goldfields. I’m just making that up, but it was certainly off the beaten path. Cool temps to start as we headed west from the parking area. I was warm within about five minutes, and varied between warm and hot the rest of the day.

Saw a group of at least a dozen hikers ahead of us, but they turned north before we reached them. Most of the wash walking was reasonably easy. No problems avoiding any water, of which there was plenty. Trail hiking tended to be rougher—plenty of mud, lots of rocks and gravel. I wore an old pair of shoes with grip equivalent to ice, so that added to the fun.

Turned off Horse with No Name and headed up towards Overlook Arch. Brushy, steep, no trail. Joe took a more direct route up the ridge, while Bruce and I curved around the north side. Joe found the arches first, and seemed to be underwhelmed. The geology in the area was neat, with some good views.

After a lunch break, we carefully made our way back down to the trail, now headed east for the second half of our loop. The eastern climb on Horse with No Name was probably the best part of the return. More neat geology in that area. Eventually, we left the most scenic parts and were hiking through regular desert, before closing the loop and making our way back to the trailhead.

No clouds made for a warm day. Other than the group in the morning, we saw no other hikers. Saw several horseback riders, and a truck giving some sort of desert tour. Fun day! And good to cover some new ground.

It had been 2 years since I had hiked in the Goldfields, so I decided to head out there today and hike to 3 destinations:
1) Helmet Rock
2) Razorback
3) Black Glass Canyon

Helmet Rock
This is the first time that I had been to Helmet Rock, and it was a fun little climb. We left the "main" trail and took a spur trail to just below Helmet Rock. The climb to the top was a bit steep but was on really grippy rock. I would liken it to the first little climb on Battleship Mountain -- I'll call it class 2+.

There is a rock outcropping down below Helmet Rock that has an American Flag on it, so naturally we had to climb it also.

Razorback
After leaving Helmet Rock, we continued on to the Packsaddle Trail; from there we went off-trail to the Camouflage Tanks, which are a wildlife water guzzler. I wasn't real happy with my choice of route to get to the Camo Tanks, but we got there. The tanks are not far from Razorback, so we headed to Razorback after checking out the Camo Tanks. Razorback looks daunting from afar, but we took a class 2 route up to the top of Razorback. Razorback has arguably the best views in the Goldfields, so we hung out there a bit.

Black Glass Canyon
After leaving Razorback, we made an off-trail descent down to Black Glass Canyon. The descent was a tad brushy at first, but it opened up nicely for the majority of the descent. We checked out Triple Arch, although we had been in the arch a few times previously so we did go into the arch today. There was lots and lots of water in Black Glass Canyon -- more than I have ever seen in the canyon. That made the going kind of slow, but we made it through.

After going through Black Glass Canyon, we went through Rough N Ready Canyon on the way back to the main trail. Rough N Ready Canyon also had lots and lots of water in it, so it was a more interesting hike through it than normal.

In Black Glass Canyon I saw a hummingbird feasting on a chuparosa, but that was it for wildlife on the day.

Synopsis
It was an enjoyable day to be in the Goldfields. Helmet Rock was fun and the views on Razorback are to die for. It's not often that you see this much water in the Goldfields, so if water is your thing now is a nice time to be out there!

A quick sunset hike with my #2 son in the Goldfields. We hiked down the road to the Willow Springs Access Trail and then took the Tank Trail over the saddle and climbed up the taller peak that overlooks the trailhead area.

Did not quite make it to the true summit, but made it up far enough to enjoy a sublte sunset.

We bushwhacked down to meet the Access Trail and hiked back to the truck.

It was nice seeing snow on 4 Peaks and the Goldfields are always a pleasure to visit.

We returned to the Goldfields again today with plans to visit five destinations: Pedestal Arch, Razorback Knob, Razorback, Triple Arch, and a large cave I'd noticed on a hike to Black Glass Canyon last month. There were only one or two cars in the parking lot at Willow Springs Trailhead when we arrived, but quite a few vehicles pulled in behind us--it looked like at least two or three groups of hikers/off-roaders getting read to head out.

We hiked along Willow Springs Basin Trail and passed the tank. It was mostly full, and someone had set up a hunting blind next to the water. The first three and a half miles were easy trail/wash hiking, and the bushwhacking started around the intersection of Rough N Ready Canyon and Packsaddle Trail. There was a large, deep pool in the wash in an area that was bone dry in December...it doesn't seem like we've had that much rain, but there was quite a bit of water out there today.

We left the wash and started the off-trail ascent west toward Razorback Knob. I climbed up most of the way but didn't reach the top...it was a lot like the top of Helmet Rock near the top--steep, but even more loose gravel on the slope, and I could tell climbing the last stretch wasn't worth the risk. From there, we continued toward Razorback and saw a group of ~eight hikers down in the canyon below, presumably heading toward Triple Arch.

We paused to check out Camouflage Tanks, which are no longer camo and are painted white. The catchment and structures around there look relatively new, and the plaque in the concrete said it was dedicated in 2017, so there's been some work done there in recent history. We passed Razorback and made our way over to Pedestal Arch, and we noticed two small windows up in the rock on the way. The arch and pedestal were impressive, but I was disappointed to hear voices as we approached, and three women were heading down a ridge toward the arch. I think they were just as surprised and disappointed to see us as we were to see them...they mentioned they'd never seen other people out there :).

[ youtube video ]

We saw them in the parking lot earlier in the morning, and they'd driven past us on the forest roads and apparently hiked in from another spot. They eventually took off toward Razorback, and we had the arch to ourselves for a few minutes before we started in the same direction. I could see them up on the spine of Razorback from a distance as we approached, and they were back down and passed by as I made my way over to the west side to climb up. It was a fun, short scramble up to the top, with great 360° views.

We didn't have time to make it over to Triple Arch today, so after Razorback we headed back to the wash at the Rough N Ready Canyon/Packsaddle intersection, then hiked north. There were more pools in the water there, and I scrambled up the slope to the cave I'd seen last time. The climb looked very brushy from the bottom but wasn't as bad as expected...not too much catclaw or too many thorns in the mix. The cave was empty, as expected, but it was fairly large and a fun climb up to satisfy my curiosity and see it up close.

[ youtube video ]

We hiked back toward Willow Springs following a slightly different route than we took on the way in, so we got to see some new landscape along the way. The parking lot was mostly empty when we finished, and one person was setting up a tripod on a small ridge to photograph the sunset. Even though we didn't make it to Triple Arch, we reached the four other destinations...plenty of interesting features in the Goldfields to combine into nice hikes, and just a short drive from Phoenix.

Thought we would make another quick trip to the Goldfields. Decided we would try the Willow Springs Basin Loop (At least that is what it's called on the topo map in our GPS program. I'll upload the GPS track.

We got a little bit of a later star than normal (7:15am). Parking lot already had a number of cars. A bit worried about running into others on the hike, but turns out that we only saw two other people on the whole hike, pretty much at the end.

The first half of the hike is following a dirt road, then when it's time to start working your way back it is on a well defined horse trials.

A good ways down the dirt road we ran into a a pack of Javelina. Got a decent picture of a mom & baby.

All-In-All a nice hike, super easy to follow the road - then track.

I missed last week and haven't done much of anything for a couple of weeks so I was looking at something with a few miles but not too taxing. This was the ticket.

This was a nice long meander in the desert. Easy going throughout with some nice views along the way. I deviated slightly from this guide, adding Willow Springs Tank and the RnR Willow Springs Crossover trails to make a longer loop. I also added the Anniversary Arch Loop, which I had hiked with @CannondaleKid a few years ago, and which I found just as enjoyable on this trip.

I saw just four other hikers on the day, most near the trailhead. The weather was perfect while I was out there (12:30 to 4:30). This hike was most enjoyable and not difficult, but I underestimated the effect of 20,000 plus steps in a remote area. I was whooped at the end and sore the next day. Good day to be out though.

I had not been to the Willow Springs TH in the Goldfields for a while, so I decided to take advantage of a nice day and once again hike to Pedestal Arch, the Razorback, and Black Glass Canyon.

From the TH I took a series of trails until coming to the junction with the Packsaddle Trail and the trail going to Rough and Ready Canyon. I went left on the Packsaddle Trail for a ways, and took a somewhat messy bushwhack to get to Pedestal Arch. I would have been a lot better off to take a direct route to Razorback and the Camo Tanks, and then take a relatively easy off-trail to get to Pedestal Arch. I have been that way before, and the off-trail is much easier than what I did on this hike.

Pedestal Arch is cool, and Razorback is fun to climb.

Both Black Glass Canyon and Rough and Ready Canyon were almost completely dry.

Unfortunately it looks like some nutrition waist channels have discovered this area of the Goldfields: I saw more trash than I have ever seen and there were a few red spraypainted arrows in 3-4 places.

I was hoping to play in the mud today, but the rain we've been expecting hasn't materialized, at least not where I live. I kept it short with this little loop, hoping to try again tomorrow. The first three plus miles was new to me. The last leg I'd been on before with @trekkin_gecko and @johnlp.

Nice little roller coaster hike, first through Willow Springs Canyon, then returning along Rough N Ready Canyon with a nice crossover trail connecting the two.

It was a little humid, but cool with a nice breeze for most of the hike. I saw a group of backpackers, looked like a scout troop and their leader, and a few others, maybe a dozen people total. All within a mile of the trailhead.

My right knee was squawking the last mile or so, hopefully because rain is coming. :D

Needed something close to town, and hadn't been in the Goldfields in a couple of years, so decided to check out an area I hadn't been yet. So I headed south at the first left turn from the Willow Springs TH access. Went until I hit jeep road, and then saw another trail that headed west. This turned into what's labeled on the MTB maps as "Willow Connector", which takes you to "Frankie Goes to Hollywood". First time I had been on this trail, and it was worthwhile.

Once at Cottonwood Wash, I decided to take the shortest way back, which happened to be "Over the Hill and Down the Hatch".

Dry out there, and only saw two other humans.

This was my first real trip into the Goldfields (minus a short trip to the Horns of Dilemma in 2018). About 20 minutes in, I started asking myself why I hadn't come out here more often! The first section with a "trail" must have put me in a good mood. The "trail" quickly vanished and I felt that mix of excitement and anxiety that off-trail hikes provide.

In addition to Razorback, we decided to get Pedestal Arch and Triple Arch.

This hike is almost perfect. A mix off trail and off-trail, solitude, beautiful canyons, water tanks, a fantastic peak, and two magnificent arches. The only thing missing is a nice solar panel :D . Razorback was surprisingly easy to summit and the route finding was as straightforward as something like this can be (thanks hikerdw and dixieflyer for your gps routes).

Triple Arch was the highlight of the trip. Never seen anything like that before. Golden Dome is now on the to-do list. Happy to be in the Goldfields.

This is a repeat of a hike that I did back in November. I took a few people with me who had limited experience in the Goldfields -- not surprisingly, they loved it!

Starting at the Willow Springs TH, we did a CW lollipop loop, with the highlights being Pedestal Arch, the Razorback, and Triple Arch in Black Glass Canyon. Both arches are neat to see, as is climbing on the Pedestal that is next to Pedestal Arch. I enjoy the climb up to Razorback -- at the widest place up on Razorback it is probably 5' wide, and other places up on the spine of the Razorback are less wide than that. There are great views up there also. Looking at Razorback you'd think that it would be a difficult climb, but I used the route up there that @hikerdw posted, and it is a surprisingly easy climb.

This hike is a keeper in my book!

This was another great day of hiking in the beautiful, rugged, mysterious, and underrated Goldfield Mountains. Tracie the Intrepid was unable to go today, so I managed to get two other suckersadventurous hikers to go with me.

Starting at the Willow Canyon TH, we did a lasso loop hike that took us to Pedestal Arch, the Razorback, and to Triple Arch. We started out on a series of "unofficial" trails culminating with the Packsaddle Trail; from there we went off-trail to Pedestal Arch, following a track that @chumley posted a while back. From Pedestal Arch, we went to the Camo Tanks using a track that @CannondaleKid did a couple of years ago. Just before getting to the Camo Tanks, we climbed up to Razorback following the track that @hikerdw posted a couple of days ago. The climb up to Razorback was a fun one, and the views were great up there. Once we dropped to the Camo Tanks, we headed toward the Triple Arch in Black Glass Canyon, following routes that @joebartels, @The_Eagle, and @trekkin_gecko had previously done, although I went a bit west of their routes. Once we left Black Glass Canyon, we were in a sandy wash for a bit, and then we went through Rough N Ready Canyon to make our way back to the TH.

After the rains last week, there was some water in both Black Glass Canyon and Rough N Ready Canyon -- the water was nice to see, although in a couple of places it was bit challenging to get around the water.

It was another great day to be in the Goldfields!

I had been wanting to go out and do some exploring in the Goldfields from the Willow Canyon TH, and I was able to persuade Tracie, my favorite and intrepid hiking partner, to accompany me today. We wanted to check out Razorback Knob, and also climb up to the Triple Arch in Black Glass Canyon. I partly followed a GPS track that @hikerdw had posted, and one that @joebartels had posted.

From the TH, we went on a series of trails that were fairly easy to follow and were mostly well groomed. After a while, we went on an off-trail bushwhack to the Camouflage Tanks; the bushwhack was not too bad for the most part. We saw the Razorback, but we never found Razorback Knob -- I was not sure which rock formation Razorback Knob was. I will have to do more research when I head that way again -- I would like to climb it if I can figure out where it is. After leaving the Camo Tanks, we buxhwhacked our way down to Black Glass Canyon. We did not go too far in the canyon before coming to Triple Arch, and we climbed up into the arch, which was fun. I enjoyed the trip through Black Glass Canyon -- there was almost no water in it, although it seemed a bit more overgrown than it was when we were there last, back in February of this year. After leaving Black Glass Canyon, we went through Rough N Ready Canyon before making our way back to the TH, on the trails that we had gone out on.

It was another nice day in the Goldfields, even though we got rained on a bit in the last mile or so before getting to the TH.

On the way back from the Goldfields we stopped off to bag a peak that had been on my radar screen for a while: Brown Road Butte. This ascent is probably the pinnacle of my hiking career -- it is hard to compare it with any peak that I have ever bagged! After the ascent, Tracie was almost more excited than I have ever seen her!...lol

The stats above are the total for the 2 hikes:
Triple Razorback: 11.2 miles with an AEG of 2,415'
Brown Road Butte: 0.9 miles with an AEG of 289'

Absolutely awesome weather for a hike close to home. While the temps were perfect, initially it was so cloudy and hazy I didn't figured it was worth hauling around my 'good' camera. So I took my old Canon PowerShot SX260 instead, expecting to take few photos.

We followed the faint equestrian trail horse north from the trailhead. Although a 'trail' Tracey wasn't too enthused about it due to the lack of use, which meant the fox-tails were downright nasty! Oh yeah, she wasn't a fan of the numerous steep descents and ascents through a seemingly unending series of drainages, featuring loose rock and/or pea-gravel.

Once we made the left turn and traversed the north slope of Peak 2348 both the terrain and the fox-tails would ease up steadily all the way to the main wash. We followed the wash until locating a few suitable rocks to stop and have a quick lunch. After the lunch we followed the wash only as far as the first corner, which we ignored, continuing straight ahead on a path which brought us to Willow Springs Basin Tank. We were blown away by the amount of water in the tank... we had never seen so much. Most trips I'd been able to walk right through the basin without having to avoid ANY water.

From the tank we pretty much wandered a bit before following a trail (not sure which) for a while until crossing a narrow drainage with a series of pour-offs. The trail went uphill which we didn't want to do so we took a chance dropping down the pour-offs, taking a short-cut down to the FR 12 wash. I was a bit worried near the end of the short-cut because it became a game track through dense fox-tails, but Tracey didn't say a word, just sat down in the sandy wash and cleaned the 'tails out of her shoes/socks

The rest of the trip we wandered a bit again, albeit avoiding any further fox-tails. Ultimately I took far more photos than expected and was pleasantly surprised by the results.

1st trip
On my last day before heading back to Tucson I had plans to hike an assortment of trails from the Willow Springs Canyon Trail Head on Hwy 88, Apache Trail at Mile post 204. I loaded my GPS with trails from HAZ and a couple I traced out from Google Earth. I was on a mission to log some of these trails that weren't documented. Got to the trail head before sunrise had my can of sardines, drank a bunch of water and turned my GPS on. WHAT THE HECK! My Garmin GPS erased all my routes, my tracks from the previous day were still there. This has never happened to me before. I know what caused it though, I was reading a post on HAZ Forum about someone with issues with their Garmin doing the same thing. My Garmin was sitting by the computer while I was reading these posts and my Garmin 650T thought that was neat and didn't realize it could do that so it decided to try it. Nothing I could do now so I decided to go ahead with the hike and try to find these trails with what I had in my memory from Google Earth. This worked fairly well but I did have to do some wandering around to cut the trails. When I got home I changed batteries and noticed that the SD card was not seated all the way and upon seating it all my routes showed back up. Should of been the first thing I checked when I had this issue.

I started out on the Lost Souls Trail that heads out right at the Trail Head. didn't see the trail at first but with a little wandering around I finally came across the trail. This is actually a horse trail but not heavily used. Once found it is fairly easy to follow. This trail follows along side the Willow Springs Canyon Trail but further to the east higher up on the hills and eventually crosses the two track to Bagley Tank. From this crossing the trail heads west to intersect Willow Springs Canyon just north of Willow Springs Basin. I lost the trail at the two track to Bagley Tank and never found it again so I just headed west cross country to Willow Springs Canyon. Turns out the trail follows the two track north for about 100 yards before heading west. This trail is an alternate route to Willow Springs Basin, it has a lot of ups and downs as it crosses multiple stream beds but the trail isn't a sandy stream bed like the Willow Springs Canyon Trail.

Once in Willow Springs Canyon I headed down stream to the junction with what I will call Rough N Ready Canyon and the Rough N Ready Trail. Probably the most interesting portion of the hike. The canyon gets narrow with high canyon walls of light colored Tuff and Black volcanic rock. Does not look like a very hospitable place in the summer. The Rough N Ready Trail heading up canyon is more of a rock scramble but no climbing. There was still water in pools along this portion of the canyon. I continue down the Rough N Ready to a Trail that cuts back to the east and over to Willow Springs Canyon and Willow Springs Basin. The problem was with out a route I wasn't sure where this occurred. I ended up going cross country until I cut the trail. Once on the trail I followed it back to Rough N Ready Trail then back tracked along the trail to Willow Springs Canyon. I call this trail the Rough N Ready Willow Springs Canyon Crossover. Really nice trail, no wonder it showed upon Google Earth so well.

From Willow Springs Canyon I follow a trail that is called the Willow Springs Tank Trail on some web sites. This trail will eventually head back to the Javelina Trail (portions of this trail are also Called the Golden Eye Trail). This trail crosses a 2 track near Willow Springs Tank and I take that down to the tank and continue south along what I am calling the Willow Spring Basin Trail. This trail will continue down to the Gold Eagles Nugget Trail (parts of this trail are referred to as the Little Chance Loop). I only follow this trail for .7 miles to a spur trail that heads down into Willow Springs Canyon. These trails are easy to follow and appear to be fairly heavily traveled. The .1 mile Spur trail down to the Willow Spring Canyon Wash is marked by a cairn but is not much of a trail but you can see your destination, just follow the steam bed.

Back in Willow Springs Canyon I follow the trail back but on this trip instead of following the trail which follows along a 2 track that occasionally leaves the wash, I stay in the wash. This is the way to go if you are on foot. The wash is much more interesting and you get to pass By Willow Springs. The canyon gets a little narrow near Willow Springs with a little rock hopping but no climbing. Just 20 feet before the Trail Head gate I came across the Lost Souls Trail. It is a little faint but it is there. I took that trail in to where I Connected up with it earlier in the day and then returned to finish this hike.

Great hike in spite of the issues with the GPS. I am tempted to write some trail descriptions with what I have learned about these trails and make some sense out of the seemingly senseless maze of trails. There is a web site I found that lists all the trails in this area but the names are a little different. mtbikeaz.com Nice map of all the trails. This is a mountain bike web site so their names are a little more colorful but the trails are there.

1st trip
On my last day out hiking before heading back to Tucson I decided to head back to the Goldfield Mountains. This hike would be an exploratory hike, "Fly by the seat of the pants", "go which ever way the wind blows". In spite of researching names of trails I could not find much, HAZ had a lot of different routes with names but some were trails some were routes. There were no definite boundaries to the trail starts and ends. So this hike I would walk a few of the routes posted and see what happens. I also plotted a few routes from google earth that look like trails.

Started at the Willow Springs Canyon Trail Head and hiked up Willow Springs Canyon. This trail/4WD road is labeled as 12 which leads to at least Bagley Tank. I Took 12 (two track) to about half way to Bagley Tank and the wind blew in a different direction and I headed back to Willow Spring Canyon. There were some rock tanks along the creek to Bagley Tank that still had pools of water in them, otherwise the creek was dry. I followed Willow Spring Canyon up to where Willow Spring Basin Tank is. There is a 4WD road leaving the wash heading to the tank. Willow Spring Basin Tank was filled to the brim. From the tank I headed south along a trail I spotted on Google earth. Turns out this trail is what is called the Golden Eye Mine Trail. Really nice horse trail. This trail terminates along what appears to be the Quartz Crystal Canyon Trail near the junction with the Gold Eagles Nugget Trail.

Returned via the Gold Eagles Nugget Trail that I was on the night before. Wasn't long before the wind changed direction again and I took a trail that splits off to the north from Gold Eagles Nugget Trail. I spotted this trail on Google earth and it heads back to Willow Spring Basin Tank. This is another good trail and stays to the east of Golden Eye Mine Trail on the ridge west of Willow Spring Canyon. On HAZ a portion of this trail is listed under Little Chance Canyon loop. If I were naming trails I would call this the Willow Spring Basin Tank Trail that connects the Gold Eagles Nugget Trail to Willow Spring Basin Tank. I hiked this half way to where it drops down close to Willow Spring Wash and took that back to the Willow Spring Canyon Trail Head. Will have to finish this up on another hike.

Nice hike for a day after a long hike. Fairly easy walking with great scenery. It's nice sometimes to hike without a destination, just walk until you get tired. I have come up with some names for these trails that I was on that set well in my mind.

WILLOW SPRING CANYON TRAIL: Follows up Willow Spring Canyon
GOLDEN EYE MINE TRAIL: Willow Spring Basin Tank to Quartz Crystal Canyon Trail
GOLD EAGLES NUGGET TRAIL: Willow Spring Canyon Trail to Quartz Crystal Canyon Trail
WILLOW SPRING BASIN TANK TRAIL: From Gold Eagles Nugget Trail to Willow Springs Basin Tank
BAGLEY TANK TRAIL: 4WD route from Willow Spring Canyon to Bagley Tank
