FR 300
Had some coworkers come back from camping at Knoll Lake. Road was quite rough on the way in but as they were leaving a roadgrader was working on the road just west of Woods Canyon Lake.

Re: FR 300
Be advised that FR 300 between SR 87 and FR 141 will be subject to delays of up to 1 hour while semi-trucks deliver aggregate for road resurfacing. Deliveries began 9/14 and are expected to continue for at least 3 weeks.

Re: FR 300
10 miles of FR300 from SR 87 are completed with the aggregate. It's in the best shape I've seen in awhile.
There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

Would say deep sinking gravel or good for biking?

Hard packed. Other than traffic, should be no problem for biking. It's even slightly less dusty

Nice! Traffic not really a problem unless I can't scoot over to the side of the road a bit, but that's where the super deep gravel seems to be, on the sides.

Re: FR 300
@ALMAL
Road resurfacing continues and daily closures/delays are ongoing.
I would not want to ride a bike on any part of the new aggregate road surface that isn't in the packed double-track made by heavier vehicles. Unless maybe if you have one of those pfancy pfat tire bikes.
The only stretch that has been resurfaced with aggregate is ~7 miles between approximately FR 147 and FR 123. Other segments have had some grading work but no aggregate surfacing.

Know if the rim road is open to foot or bike traffic whilst closed for motor vehicles?

There are no posted restrictions to other uses that I've ever seen. Though I recommend a fatty because while it's probably melting fairly rapidly, as of a few days ago, there was some pretty deep snow in some sections. Which of course, is why the road is still closed to wheeled motor vehicles.

With the March snow up there, the onset of restrictions might be delayed a bit in the higher elevations. We shall see. As for the 300, it was resurfaced last fall and looked nicely graveled. As for biking, that may provide similar challenges to snow. But it won't be muddy. The cabin loop on the other hand...

Re: FR 300
@Nighthiker No, but Coco does fairly well at updating the road status on their website.

(Bonus, earlier this week, all the R3 forests updated their websites to be responsive [mobile-friendly]. Welcome to 2022.)
